Bangkok Bank Message

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Anybody receive a text message from Bangkok Bank requesting you attend your opening branch within 30 days for identity verification ?  Was your visit straightforward and other than passport/bank book & card/UK/Thai driving licence, did they require any other docs ?

Thanks very much

No.

So if you have a tourist visa they will close your account?

It might depend on your visa status. Did you open that account recently and/or on a tourist visa?

Consider yourself lucky that they give you 30 days, many others have reported that they found out when their account was already frozen.

Have 12 month visa, that and bank account obtained last November.  I do read tales about bank accounts now and do feel I got in at the right time. Obviously subject to how this visit goes !!!!

Are you in Pattaya ?

Yes, I am

That is interesting. I’m trying to work out the criteria for which accounts are being called up, because it isn’t everyone. Maybe there are a few “problematic branches?”

So far it’s just Bangkok Bank that are calling people in. I guess I’m hoping the fallout will be limited before the crackdown winds change.

Good luck at your visit to the bank, presumably today.

No.  and I have several Bangkok Bank accounts. None of them have contacted me to do such things.

Bangkok Bank is the best , forget the rest.

Just had a reply from BB, having asked what other docs they were referring to, and the reply says that my account is indeed, temporarily suspended, pending my visit. no reference to suspension in their initial general notice. FYI

If you read the other thread about BBL account been suspended temporary. I guess its only Pattaya at certain branch and something to do with when you open the account it was on tourist visa. Anyway , I bring passport. bank book, driving license and condo contract.

My agent and BB did not make reference to condo agreement as far as docs were concerned but it did cross my mind. Always the way but a big spanner in the works is my contract ends at the end of this month! I spoke with the owner and we agreed an extension back in June but she’s been in hospital in Bangkok for the last 6 weeks recovering from surgery so I’m tempted to leave that out of the equation in case it causes an additional problem

I would get the verification letter from your Sim Card company validating the phone number match your passport.  The phone companies know all about it

I've not been called in yet, probably because of a small balance and rarely use it

I’m heading to bank tomorrow morning so I’ll have to chance my arm without it. Thanks for pointing it out. How would I go about obtaining that? Just in case I have too

When it is said "opening branch"......does this mean the branch you very first used (I see there's a clue in the name) to open your account?

Ain't doing that....14 hour round trip.

BBL, SCB & UOB all accepted my phone bill as proof the SIM/phone was in my name.
