The Chief Inspector of Thailand’s National Police, Pol Gen Thatchai Pitanilabutr, has led a high-level delegation to Vietnam to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tackling cybercrime, including cross-border call centre scams.

The visit, from 15–17 August, coincided with the 80th anniversary celebrations of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, held at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. Thailand was among 17 countries represented at the event, reflecting its growing role in regional law enforcement collaboration.

Accompanying Pol Gen Thatchai were Pol Maj Gen Attasit Sudsanguan, Deputy Commissioner of the Technology Crime Suppression Division and Pol Col Sanya Niampradit, Deputy Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division, along with other senior officers.

During the visit, Thai and Vietnamese officials exchanged strategies to combat call centre syndicates, which have increasingly relocated operations from western Cambodia, such as Poipet, to eastern areas near the Vietnamese border, including Svay Rieng. These gangs exploit Vietnamese infrastructure to defraud citizens, prompting both countries to enhance intelligence sharing, joint investigations and the coordination of international arrest warrants.

Thailand’s National Police has established the International Anti-Scam and Human Trafficking Syndicate Command Center (IAC), a 24-hour war room integrating domestic and international agencies. Vietnamese officials were invited to participate in operations at the IAC, signalling full cooperation from both sides.

Pol Gen Thatchai highlighted the importance of the visit in strengthening Thai–Vietnamese relations in law enforcement and cross-border crime prevention. “Vietnam placed great importance on inviting our delegation to this significant event. Our collaboration has been highly effective and will continue to evolve, enabling us to combat cybercrime and call centre scams more efficiently,” he said.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts by Thailand and Vietnam to enhance regional security through proactive, coordinated policing and intelligence sharing. Both sides expressed satisfaction with past cooperation and pledged to continue joint operations to disrupt cybercrime syndicates.
