Who in the hell still uses snail mail?  Especially from Thailand to the USA.

Probably the same people who write checks.

I need to for tax forms. Certain forms can only be submitted by mail. If I remember correctly they need to arrive by US Mail as well, not FedEx or UPS.

The taxes they will collect in the long run will allow to raise wages. Eventually, the buying power of American people will increase. Not immediately, it will take 2 years or so.

Never heard of that.

When I had an S-corp my CPA submitted everything electronically

Same now with individual filing.

What form must be mailed by US mail?

Taxes and duties are normally collected from the recipient in the destination country. Shouldn't affect Thai Post, as they are not responsible for collecting the tax and duty.

They are now, had a couple of trips to the Sukhumvit sorting office, I wouldn't mind, but they don't even tell you the package is there in the form of a note in the post.

Kind of silly.  It doesn't affect the people sending packages from Thailand.  It is the people receiving the packages that will have to pay the fee.

Why should it?

When you import anything into Thailand then you have to pay taxes .

The sender shouldn't have to pay for something you want.

When I would travel to PR China late 1980's, there would often be young Chinese citizens at the airport who would ask:

Are going to China? Can you carry this letter for me and mail it domestic?

Maybe that will be happening now at Suvarnabhumi in reverse.

At all international airports worldwide.

Thailand's Postal service is suspending or delaying post from not only USA, but  UK  too , I have just received  mail from Pension companies  in UK posted in April 9th..arriving Thailand August 23rd.......Registered mail exiting Thailand  arrives within 3 weeks but their postal tracking system is not regularly updated....e mails to them is a waste of time

Yes it's an international issue with many nations responding. But even those who have suspended service have not all suspended regular mail such as letters as Thailand has. I'm not blaming Thailand but if this lasts a long time this can obviously be a big problem for many Americans.

So as far as you know JT, is letter mail still arriving from USofA to Thailand?

every package I had sent to me from the U.S. I had to pay tax, customs duties sometimes I had to pay more than the item was worth. That includes personal items like old clothing from family members.   I even had to pay for some old photos sent to me.  I don't see a problem. They are just making it fair.

No. Nothing to do with 'from' but with 'to'. And not just Thailand, many countries are suspending postal services to the US

As far as I know and I haven't heard of any announcment saying that incoming mail from the USA has been blocked. I guess we'll see.

Does this included letters to the United States? Going to have a fun time explaining to Social Security why the letter was late.

Yes the suspension includes letters.

Keep in mind though that there is still presumably a SECOND MAILING of the form later in the year so if this is resolved, that's a backup.

If there is a problem with both, then there is probably a way to resolve this via email with Manila FBU.

If next year there is a benefits stoppage, there is now a way to reverse that over the phone directly with SSA.

So it's way too early to panic about this.

The Thai Post mail suspension is "temporary" but there is no set date to reinstate service, so presumably that will be dependent on resolution of trade war issues and uncertainties between the Thai government and the Trump regime.  In other words, completely unpredictable.

So is there anyway possible to get a letter to America at this time?

A friend in Canada?

Contact the companies to see if they are blocking also.

It's a dynamic situation.

Also the regular address for the 7162 is a post office box so you may need to use an alternative address for any premium shippers if any.

There has been mention of a very expensive Thai Post courier service as well.

As we're on the first mailing time frame now, I suggest that people cool their jets as we are still very far from the time next year when there is any risk of benefits suspension.

I wouldn't bother Manila FBU yet either.

The time to contact them is if you never receive the form after the SECOND mailing.

I am currently south and had planned to leave early morning by train and bus to travel about 400km or more to mail the letter by fast mail at the post office in a few days from my mail home address in Petchabun Province. Will they still accept the letter? Oddly just checked here and saw the notice. Great timing on my part already booked the hotel room.

No. They will not accept any letter going to the USA.

Why not?

I plan to contact them letting them know the tardiness of the forms arriving without any announcement as well as the current mailing situation.

I will be cordial with them as always and again express the need and desire to have the 7162 process online.

They would know already, and they have absolutely no control over such things.

Their policy is to welcome contact AFTER the second form hasn't arrived.

If you want to waste your time and theirs, go for it.

One of the press releases from ThaiPost mentioned three services still available for THL-->USA service, including Courier Post (Document) 1, 1,530 THB.

Group 1: Maximum size 150 x 200 x 150 cm. I used 34 grams.

This shows up on the postal service calculator.

No clue if it "works"?

There is a potential problem with the last two options. Unless this halt on mail to the US is lifted soon, many--probably the vast majority--of people who simply mailed in the initial notice will now be forced into using FBU in Manila later this year. And Manila is already overwhelmed with just the usual amount of lost/delayed/unsent forms. What will happen if you pile on to them all the other recipients now unable to respond?

Noted.

Still no point in panicing yet.

Try finding the import tax rate for items on the Internet.

Nearly impossible for a regular person. First you need to figure out what category and sub category your item falls in.   Then you will deal with entering tons of info to be given what may or may not be accurate info.

This is probably the pause as all this criteria needs to be updated and confirmed.

Well, doesn't have anything to do with Thailand, but I'm absolutely sure the Democrat Party in America has always claimed "higher taxes means more money"..... for the government.

Some people are claiming that DHL & FedEx are no longer accepting "parcels".  I'll find out if this is true, I'm sure.

The shipping fiasco on mailings to the U.S. that Trump has triggered has now spread from Thailand to Europe as well:

European postal services suspend shipment of packages to US over tariffs

August 24, 2025

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — The end of an exemption on tariff duties for low-value packages coming into the United States is causing multiple international postal services to pause shipping as they await more clarity on the rule.

...

On Saturday, postal services around Europe announced that they are suspending the shipment of many packages to the United States amid confusion over new import duties.

Postal services in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Italy said they will stop shipping most merchandise to the U.S. effective immediately. France and Austria will follow on Monday.
