I wouldn’t had any tattoos, but still I got one for some stupid reason back in the days 17 year old, but today, or even a few years later, wouldn’t done it.

Back when I first came here mongering most bargirls didn’t have tattoos.

Quite a few had the Buddhist back tattoos.

And quite a few had them on the lower stomach to cover up the stretch marks from all the kids they had had.

 

 

Now it seems most have tattoos and many extensively, neck, hand, arse, face, lower arm, back of legs etc etc.

So true. I met this virgin. She had an online relationship with a 60 year old black guy in Chicago. She told him I want to get a tattoo. So he said, if I pay for it will you tattoo my name?

 

So guess what, this genius decided to tatoo the name of a guy she never met on her body, twice. To this day she's trying to get rid of these tattoos.

I don't know.  From my perspective most of the guys I knew back in my Navy days got "screwed, blued, and tattooed" while on R&R, generally after getting quite drunk.  I limited my activities to drinking and screwing, so my canvass is still unpainted and I plan to have it remain that way until they push me into the pizza oven for my cosmic pizza-party with Buddha and friends.   

Most people in Thailand see tattoos as a form of showing off. I first hit Thailand 25 years ago and it was rare to see a female with a tattoo/s even among the bar girls. There's a young Thai guy over the road from our house, his mother said he's just turned 14 yo. He smokes, drinks beer with his father and friends every evening and he's covered in tattoos. It won't be long before he pots his girl friend, he's shaping up as a real winner.

It comes with the neighborhood, not common everywhere.

It has nothing to do with my neighborhood as  where I live the people are totally different and their kids toe the line and all go to private schools. The young guy I mentioned is from Chantaburi and his parents rent the house over the road from our home. I bought my home 16 years ago and I've never seen a police car there since I moved in.

What you described was a typical village anywhere in Thailand where laokao and Yaba is part of the daily life. 

 

Obviously not but I guess they stand out in the neighborhood. 

People see them as art and a projection of their qualities and what gives them pleasure. However, they aren't the art or the artist themselves, just a canvas; portable graffiti. 

 

Having said that, it's their choice and it's essentially harmless.

 

In Japan you won't be let in an onsen with a tattoo as they're associated with the Yakuza and crime.

it's a Tramp stamp for the ladies in Thailand. ( apart from temple tats ) 

Some tats can give guys,  special super powers, (  make believe  show time )

Well, I do not know about not hurting anyone. Tats are a form of pollution and they hurt my eyes when I see them.

That's not a very balanced response.

 

Some men and women in Thailand have tattoos as a respect for parents etc., and respect for various gods, beliefs etc. Some are the result of a 'directive' of a monk, to ward off bad spirits / bad luck etc.
