SIM provider new passport

Can I bring a copy of my passport data to update my new passport with my True SIM provider. Sound paranoid, but must travel 100 km to reach the SIM provider and I am not too comfortable carry the passport with me. Thank you 🙏🙏

I would take the passport in my man bag nailed to my chest 😊

At AIS they have an app which they use to take a picture of the passport. Some automatic process behind.

I doubt it will work with a copy.

Another question: my SIM is on my old passport. I already updated it with the bank. Is necessary I do with the SIM provider as well or for the bank is enough if name, surname and DOH match with my bank account. Thanks🙏

I ask again the same to you as well: sorry if annoying all of you: my SIM is on my old passport. I already updated it with the bank. Is necessary I do with the SIM provider as well or for the bank is enough if name, surname and DOH match with my bank account. Thanks

I did this a few weeks ago.

I usually take everything: yellow house book, wife's blue house book, wife's Thai ID card, Thai ID, passport, driver's licence etc. They just give me back what they don't need.

When you give True your passport they will enter the details into the system and give you a new SIM card with your old phone number or new one if you change it.

If you are with Kasikorn bank you need a copy of the paper where they linked your SIM to your pp number to show your bank.

Bankok bank didn't require the copy.

Took me about half an hour, but it depends on how busy the True outlet is.

At the end, only passport was enough, right? As I don't have any of the items you listed. Thank you

Thank you so much. They just need to see my personal data or they need anything related to my visa status?

That is paranoid.  I have a man bag which I put my phone, by eye glass case, and my passport in (pens, condoms, small machete and double-shot .40 derringer (just kidding), necessary stuff.  Once you put it on, don't take it off.  I put it on when I leave the house, take if off when I get home.  Buy one with solid construction so it can't be pulled off or cut. I've lived here 18 years and never had that happen.  Not saying that it doesn't happen, just haven't had it happen. I'm not a fan of carrying my passport, but on some occasions you just gotta.  Suck it up.  Be a man - Buy a Chad-bag.Â Â đŸ§”â€â™‚ī¸

I know I am🙏đŸĢŖ

To be really honest, the only time I've needed by passport was for Immigration.  I did have one instance where a BBL wanted my passport and wouldn't accept my other forms of ID (2 Thai DL with address, and a pink card with the same address).  That's just par for the course with banks.

It usually only takes a few seconds to scan your passport. It seems they just place it under a camera and take a photo of it.

Take your new updated passport, not your expired one as it is no longer valid.

If you are nervous carrying it, only carry it on your person, in a zipped or buttoned pocket.

To be honest, there is probably no need to go and update passport with the SIM provider until you need to change SIM card or phone number.

I wouldn't bother for now. If you feel you really want to do it and it is some distance away,, then wait until you have other business in the area and do it then.

If you are paranoid, why aren't you paranoid about traveling without your pp which is required by the law?

Why wouldn't you take both passports?

If you only take 1 they're sure to ask for your old one.

When I travel I have a colour laminated copy of the pp and visa status, plus all my passport pages photos on my phone. Until now, was ok when they stopped me, even if happened only  once in BKK.

So you have no qualms about carrying your phone about with you, then, despite the fact that its loss could also prove catastrophic.

The phone I use is an old one. If I lose it, it won't be a drama at all.

I suppose you could, just in case. They didn't ask for my old one at AIS when I did mine.

They asked for it at True when I did mine.

That's why I say take everything you have.

For me it's a 2 hr drive round trip to True about 3 hr round trip to Bangkok Bank, better to take everything + +.

Also at the Kasikorn bank they wanted a copy from True linking SIM to Passport, but at Bangkok Bank they don't.

Are all these phone number verifications and facial recognition only necessary if you use the bank app? I really don't want to travel 100+100 km for something that's unnecessary, both facial recognition and the Passport SIM update, if they're only connected to the bank app. Since I don't use it, I haven't even installed it on my phone. Thanks.

I think they are clamping down to prevent online fraud, which was reaching epidemic proportions. plus likely government wanting more info for taxation purposes.

Actually, I'm a little suprised the bank updated the sim details on what you say is your old passport. Was that done at a time when you also had the new passport?

How long ago did you update your sim info on the old passport with the bank?

Generally, the banks want to confirm that your current passport info is registered with the service provider.

Updating the new passport with the service provider is pretty straightforward. I just needed the passport. But that was a year ago, and since then there have been tighter controls concerning bank accounts.

Get your new passport details connected with the service provider (your sim), and then get it updated with the bank. After that you're good to go.

I am genuinely interested in your answer to this question, because this claim is made regularly on this forum without corroborating evidence. Just two little pieces of information, please:

1. Title of the law

2. Number of the section of that law.

I apologize, I explained myself poorly: the same day I picked up my passport, I went to the bank for the update, but I haven't yet done the update with the SIM provider: this was in May 2024. My name, surname, and date of birth are obviously the same, the account is in my name only, but the bank has the new passport, while the SIM is still registered with the old passport.
