Thailand's vibrant tourism sector has reported impressive figures as nearly 21 million international visitors have graced its shores within the first eight months of 2025, bringing in a staggering 992 billion baht. This influx is led by Chinese tourists, who have outnumbered Malaysians to become the leading group of visitors.

As of 24th August, Thailand has surpassed expectations with its tourism revenue reaching approximately 992,058 million baht. This windfall has been driven by the arrival of 3,025,170 Chinese tourists, pushing them ahead of 2,949,361 Malaysian visitors. Other significant contributors to these figures include 1,526,404 Indians, 1,180,173 Russians, and 1,011,612 South Koreans.

However, there has been a noticeable dip in tourists over the past week, as arrivals numbered 562,870, marking an 8.23% decrease from the previous week. This decline, down 50,502 visitors, is attributed to the end of the summer holidays in various countries and the conclusion of a major holiday period in India. Consequently, daily arrivals averaged around 80,410 during this time.

Chinese visitors remained the largest group last week, with 93,158 arrivals, followed closely by 79,061 Malaysians and 45,409 Indians. Meanwhile, South Koreans and Japanese accounted for 28,199 and 27,515 arrivals, respectively. Despite leading the charts, Indian tourists saw a substantial 17.31% decline, while Japanese arrivals decreased by 16.87%. South Korean, Malaysian, and Chinese numbers also saw minor declines.

In a forward-looking move, Thailand is bracing for stabilisation in tourist numbers. The government is proactive, introducing several facilitative measures like waiving the TM6 card requirement and urging airlines to boost flight capacities. These efforts are part of the broader "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025" initiative, which aims to sustain and bolster tourist influx.

In related developments, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled a bold strategy for 2026, targeting a tourism revenue of 2.8 trillion baht. This aim positions Thailand to climb into the top 10 global tourism earners. The TAT’s strategy, spearheaded by Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool, focuses on quality over quantity, promoting higher spending per visitor.

Branded as “The New Thailand,” the TAT's initiative aims to transform the country into a hub for premium travel experiences. It places an emphasis on sustainable tourism, fresh attractions, and active involvement of local communities while maintaining a competitive edge in a fluctuating global market.

This multi-faceted approach signals a robust future for Thailand’s tourism, promising not only to retain its current visitor attraction rate but to elevate the quality of holiday experiences offered. The nation's commitment to enhancing travel services and experiences heralds an exciting era for both old and new visitors alike.

This refers to the TDAC, I guess. Are they really planning to ditch it just months after launching it? Or is this an AI mix-up combining an old story with a new one? Also, as above posts, I thought the visitor numbers were down 8% as of yesterday's news..

I never trust TAT and the Thai news... They make up stories all the time..

Don't you get the feeling the laughable TAT announces the gloom and doom every other day only to blow sunshine up our a$$ the next day??

TAT is a laughing stock and ongoing joke with these daily to weekly reports regarding tourism.

TDAC is the platform to launch the coming (soon) arrival taxes!

This is about revenue from visitors, not the number of visitors.

Wow!! A 'staggering' 47,238 baht per international visitor! Big spenders coming to Thailand. Mama Noodles must be sold out by now... 😆

Cheap indian tourists.

Paying tourists to visit regions of Thailand is a complete waste of tax payers money in Thailand. An absolute disgrace.

I never realised until this morning, Thailand's ATM charges for a foreigner to use is the third most expensive in the world,
