Renewing My One Year Visa With An Agent.

Featured Replies

Hi there, I've lived in Thailand for the past 25 years, in that time I've always obeyed the immigration rules by the due dates. It appears now that the days of renewing my one year visa with an agent maybe over. I've used the same very popular visa agent for the past 10 years without a problem. Also being 80 yo my Bangkok Bank application has probably been disabled now. So where does that leave me, at my age it's a hassle to go to the immigration office in Jomtien.

Why do you think that you can no longer use this agent, what specifically has you worried?

Why?

As first two replies have asked... Why now do you feel this is no longer possible.

At a guess you may be concerned with recent issues with BBL.

Jomtien is LOA... Land of agents.

There are plenty of agents in Pattaya that can assist you.

Just to be clear.... you do not meet the financial requirements yourself.

Rather you use an agent for that.

So you must have the needed cash in the bank or monthly income if you have 'always obeyed the immigration rules', so do it yourself.

The op said he 'always followed the immigration rules by due dates'. Not real clear, but that kind of implies he's done his extensions and other immigration-related tasks when they're due. Which doesn't mean he has been complying with the financials on his own, and instead has relied on the assistance an agent(s) in that regard. And nothing wrong with that, it's been a long-accepted practice here of agents and dealings with immigration.

No need to 'throw in the towel'. If he has been using Bangkok Bank as the account for the financials, most likely he'll be able to utilize an agent and a different bank will need to be used.

Don't worry, the visa agents have found away around the BBL issue.

Seen reports from a couple of guys who have managed to get an extension using their BBL account, it costs an extra 3,000 THB (15,500) and they did mention that the agent needed to do something on their Mobile App so not having the app or having limits <800K might be an problem.

I'm 84. I permanently retain 800k in a bank account in my name. I personally apply for an annual retirement extension, and have done so since 1992. I have never used an agent, and would only ever do so if my mobility became significantly worse. I do not find the trip to Immigration, once a year and taking no more than 2/3 hours, a hassle. You might care to give it a try.

That's where the truth is probably stretched a bit, always relied on the agent to bolster the bank account probably nearer the truth

"Probably"?

You haven't checked?

Good for you, and I take care of the immigration tasks myself as well.

For those use agents out of convenience--to avoid the time involved, and who legitimately meet the finanical requirements--good for them. It's a service they find worthwhile.

And for others who use agents to secure extensions out of necessity, because they personally don't meet the financial requirements, that's been a workaround for a long time here. Not saying that's necesssrliy the case for the OP, as he hasn't really spelled it out clearly. But reading between the lines it seems to be the case.

From many reports over the years, it seems a bit tricky to get off the 'agent train', if you will, if you've been having an agent(s) secure extensions by doing the deposit/withdrawl shuffle to your account. Plus, if you don't meet the financials, there's no way you could do the extension yourself. And with this latest imbroglio involving Bangkok Bank, especially as it seems to relate to Pattaya, a monkey wrench has been thrown into the works.

But as reported a few posts above, it still appears doable to get an agent-assisted extension while using Bangkok Bank. The OP needs to have a sit-down with his agent, that's better than trying to flesh it out here.
