In a dramatic development on Koh Samui, a Russian man was apprehended for his alleged role in a cryptocurrency robbery that occurred in Phuket on August 26. Dmitrii Glushko, aged 26, has been charged following a coordinated police operation.

The incident began when 28-year-old Russian, Aleksandr, reported a loss of cryptocurrency valued at about 1.2 million baht. Aleksandr filed a complaint at the Chalong Police Station, stating that he had been deceived into a meeting by Glushko under the pretext of a business discussion. Instead of a business opportunity, Aleksandr was confronted, attacked, and detained by four unknown Russian men at the meeting location in Soi Klum Yang, Chalong.

The attackers coerced Aleksandr into transferring his digital assets via the Tronscan application, releasing him after the transaction. Subsequent investigations by police revealed that the four primary suspects had quickly exited Thailand separately, leaving behind clues that pointed to Glushko’s involvement as a decoy.

Maintaining surveillance, police received intelligence about Glushko’s plan to relocate to Koh Samui. He was aided by another Russian, Stolbov Gleb, who assisted in his attempted escape. The duo travelled from Phuket to a Surat Thani pier, where they boarded a ferry to Koh Samui, with Glushko concealing himself in a blue Nissan sedan.

Law enforcement officials successfully tracked their movements and set the stage for an arrest upon their arrival on the island. Glushko was swiftly taken into custody, while his companion, Gleb, was also detained for further enquiries.

During questioning at Koh Samui Police Station, Glushko refused to cooperate, prompting authorities to transfer him back to the Chalong Police Station, which is leading the investigations.

Glushko now faces charges under Section 340 of the Thai Criminal Code, relating to conspiracy with three or more individuals to commit robbery. The implications are severe, potentially leading to 10 to 15 years of imprisonment and a financial penalty ranging between 200,000 and 300,000 baht.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border crime involving foreign nationals in Thailand. It also underscores the challenges of digital asset theft, an increasing issue as cryptocurrencies become more prevalent.

Thai authorities continue their hunt for the additional suspects outside national borders, working closely with international agencies to bring them to justice. This case serves as a cautionary tale for cryptocurrency users, reminding them to remain vigilant and aware of the risks associated with digital currencies.

As the investigation progresses, local communities and the expatriate population in Thailand remain attentive, wary of potential implications for safety and international relations. This arrest marks a critical point in addressing and mitigating foreign-involved criminal activities within the nation.

Well done RTP!

Please keep up your good work.

Let's make Thailand great again!

Unfortunately, Thailand has become a safe heaven for criminals and fugitives from all over the world! Something needs to be done about it.
