A Chinese construction foreman working on the high-speed rail project was struck and killed by a train in Saraburi after reportedly standing too close to the tracks while talking on his phone.

The incident happened on the morning of 31 August, around 500 metres before Muak Lek railway station. Rescue teams from Klang Dong and Muak Lek Hospital rushed to the scene and found the victim, later identified as Mr Shan Wenzhu, with critical injuries. He was taken towards hospital but died en route.

Mr Shan, who was overseeing workers on the high-speed rail construction section between the Royal Thai Air Force Academy in Muak Lek district and Ban Thanon Khong in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima, was said to have been standing near the tracks while on his mobile phone when he was clipped by a passing train and thrown into trackside woodland.

Investigators believe he may not have heard the approaching train due to the surrounding forested area and the track’s curve. Police are working to identify the exact circumstances of the incident.
