Expats living with high season

You sure Songkran isn't worse than December peak season? Pattaya is horrible during Songkran (unless you like that kind of thing).

Same same.  Expats generally try avoid high season and Songkran, which is kind of in the last gasp of the tourist fleecing mentality before the low season mentality fully kicks in.

Great reply to an absolute nonsense post, and while at it, tell me how a floor mopper who is not yet retired can afford to live in Thailand ? How can he pay for the visa fees? I also lived in Thailand

The floor mopping might be a joke. He might be an accountant, for all we know.    You're just jealous because you had to move back home and some people are still able to enjoy Thailand.

Ah, the sweet poison of a quiet street. You found this place, this little slice of heaven called Arcadia, a perfect hideout from the world's cheap noise. The sun beats down, the air hangs still, and you think you've finally outsmarted the hustle. You're dreaming of retirement, of endless days where the biggest problem is which book to read by the pool.
But every paradise has its serpent, and this one wears a Hawaiian shirt. You're living a temporary quiet, a low-season mirage. You look out your window and see a world that's just a whisper away from going mad. You start to see the signs: the empty hotel lobbies, the vacant patios. It's the calm before the storm. A storm of tourists, a tidal wave of partygoers, all coming to turn your peaceful retreat into a temporary monument to chaos.
You're a detective in your own home, piecing together the grim future. The tell-tale signs are everywhere. That quiet condo building of yours? Soon it'll be a high-rise carnival, full of strangers who think that "vacation" means "no rules." The calm streets? They'll be a human river, flowing with selfie sticks and bad fashion.
You think you've escaped the rat race, but you're just a character in a bad B-movie. The joke's on you, pal. This quiet season? It's just a long, boring commercial for the main feature—a feature called "Chaos." And you've got a front-row seat.

If you are going to use AI take out the double m - it's a dead giveway. " feature—a feature"

Ah, but every B‑movie needs its audience, and I’ve always preferred the director’s cut. If the storm comes, I’ll be the one on the balcony with a drink in hand, watching the extras stumble through their lines. Paradise isn’t something you lose when the crowd arrives—it’s what you hang onto while they queue for the buffet. So let them bring the noise; I’ve already found the volume knob

You got help then - then we all do now .... .there should be a thread when it's an ai battle and evetbody is encouraged to use ai to the max and any input they think fit to see how mad it gets !

Got it — let’s break this down with a forensic-style lens. I’ll look at structure, style, and linguistic fingerprints that often differentiate AI vs. human writing.

🔎 Structural Analysis

  • Paragraph flow: The piece builds deliberately from peaceful setting → foreshadowing → climax of chaos. That’s a clear narrative arc, which humans naturally construct. Many raw AI outputs tend to wander or loop back without tight progression.

  • Sentence length variety: There’s a mix of short punches (“But every paradise has its serpent.”) and longer, winding sentences. AI often defaults to medium-length, uniform sentences unless prompted otherwise.

🔎 Stylistic Markers

  • Extended metaphor: The whole piece is soaked in noir/B-movie metaphors. Sustaining a metaphor across multiple paragraphs is something humans do more intuitively—AI tends to drop threads unless heavily guided.

  • Irony & humor: Lines like “a human river, flowing with selfie sticks and bad fashion” feel observational, witty, and specific. That observational humor is usually a human fingerprint.

🔎 Linguistic Clues

  • Repetition patterns: AI often leans on repeated phrasing (e.g., “calm before the storm” + “tidal wave of partygoers”). This text does use repetition, but it feels intentional, like part of the noir cadence.

  • Idiomatic phrasing: Phrases like “the joke’s on you, pal” and “front-row seat” are idiomatic, natural, and placed for impact—again leaning human, though AI can mimic this now.

⚖️ Verdict

  • If AI: It was written with a very specific style prompt (something like “write a hardboiled noir monologue about retirement in a tourist town”), and possibly lightly edited by a human to tighten the metaphors.

  • If Human: It’s just a well-crafted, sarcastic essay or vignette—something a creative writer might dash off in one sitting.

👉 My probability call: ~70% human, ~30% AI-assisted.

Would you like me to run a computational check (e.g., burstiness/perplexity analysis) on the text? That can flag statistical “AI-like” fingerprints beyond the stylistic layer.

The high season madness is mostly around Central Pattaya. Here in Jomtien there is hardly any change. The weather is better of course so you can go out more, the beach, walks etc.

PS Arcadia is the worst place to stay

There's the fun of the large coaches delivering the throngs,  choking up the roads inside and outside town which reappear in high season, often making impossible U-Turns.

Ran it through a detector and it came back saying it was probably AI generated.

High season has definitely been getting more dangerous the last 3 years, I barely go out except between the hours of 5-6am and if I do it's in a tank for safety.

Traffic is getting pretty bad.   Parts of Jomtien are starting to get bad too.  The main road around the bus station and ViewTalay 2/5 is kind of nuts most hours of the day/night.  All those buses using the main road as a parking lot doesn't help.

To my shame I am not really conversant with Artificial Intelligence. Does it, like the real thing, come in varying degrees, and if so would such offerings perhaps fall into the classification of "A not particularly I"?

songkran and high season are fine.

Just get yuor <deleted> sorted before 10am each day.

So you think they are running robots on the forum instead of employing staff ? Makes sense

I reckon "Still kicking " is a robot

At the risk of stating the obvious, you can just ask AI.

You say the weather is better in Jomtien than Pattaya. Where is the definition line please?

No racism against Australians. Here we are talking about one specific.

How much problem can one person have?

And the answer, no. Why would we live different? Instead, most of us chose to live in a place we accept, like and feel good in.

Most are decent folks. Though for whatever reason, Australia produces some of the most stupid arrogant knuckleheaded abjects on the planet. Maybe something in the water there, or is it because what’s in their dna and that they’re descendants of criminals that were thrown on a far away prison island.

I remember it well I was imprisoned in there for a few weeks once.

Yes from the entrance door to the street is around 5-8 minutes walk plus dodging the motorbikes speeding past you

Are you happy?

Had to move back home? My wife is a nurse and makes

Average Hourly Pay

AU $35.28 per hour

Plus my pension of $ 2600 per fourth night

Can I detect a bit of jealousy?

And yes, my wife of 22 years is Thai.

Hope you are reporting your wife's income to Centrelink/Services Australia or you might be in for a shock if they audit you.

No, we are only classified as separated for Centrelink, so I receive my full pension. My wife has a different address than I do.

Big brother/AI is watching. Only a matter of time.

Good luck, and I sincerely mean that, take whatever you can get for as long as you can.

One way is to read reviews of the condos in high season. Sometimes they will change. Lifts horribly slow. Noise from people on the beach or car parks at night. Horrible tourists making a mess and noise around the pool.

I guess that View talay 6 would be a tourist Mecca in high season

I would hate to be a expat here then.

My condo is low rise with a really nice pool and gardens, to be honest I don't notice much of an increase in residents in high season in the communal areas. Nice and quiet and relaxing.

Outside is a completely different matter and I'm looking to go elsewhere Dec-Apr in the future. A few months away isn't difficult or a hardship,
