Elon Musk has just solved a major world crisis

Featured Replies

Cool idea but where do you put it. Its not like you can just put it anywhere you want. You would need to buy land.

Using it to help less fortunate people would be great though.

The homeless do not, however, families who cannot afford to pay 380,000, 680,000 or 800,000 USD for a new home in the area where they want to live, may have access to 7800 USD.

A 27sqm or 300sqft would not make a family home livable for more than 2 people. But still, it is a very good option if they can make them joinable to increase the size and still be so cheap. I do not see it as an option for those who want to make children or have more than 2 people living there simply because of the size.

Clearly the big problem has been the huge inflation of house prices for first time buyers. Now, if they can buy a home for 7800 USD, this could provide an adequate home for a single person, a couple and even a couple with 1 kid.

So the housing crisis, ie inflationary prices for real estate, could be solved now.

you still need the land to put it on.

Darn it.... I was hoping to hear that Elon was personally testing the first launch of one of his rockets to Mars.  I thought he was one of those guys that believe that if you want a job done right.... do it yourself.

His competition in the US will be the US$25 tent

Still need land to put it on. And it probably needs a slab, plumbing for the waste, permits, and a whole range of extras. Can pick up a good small used motorhome for $10,000 usd, and park it in a friends driveway, fully contained.

Your friend probably does not want it blocking his driveway though.

NAh, they won't allow planning to put it anywhere.

Expensive housing is government policy, not an accident.

If you allowed cheap housing, half the white male population would stop working.

Buy two, and put them next to each other.

One is a bedroom, the other is living/dining.

Yep, I'd need 2 connected, one as eat in kitchen, the other as bedroom.   Plop those down in bumFuk nowhere in USA, and you got cheap housing.   👍

Nice looking houses. I didn't see any wheels so hooking them up to a car doesn't seem like it's possible. Wherever the owner puts it, he has to buy land and arrange for electricity (unless the solar panel is sufficient for all electrical needs); water, sewage are additional. If Musk could build a multistorey apartment block the land usage would be more efficient, but weight bearing strength would have to be improved.

However, the current design looks futuristic and clean.

The only issue I see is size. Quite small. But that has advantages. You can just take this house with you when you move. Incredible. A small car can tow it.

Great idea for countries "with room to spare". No room to spare in Europe. Plus land prices too high. Plus the forces that rule Europe do not want any "shantytowns", fearing increased "gypsidom". A breeding ground for organised social unrest. Socialists with a little property are a danger to the well capitalised establishment.

Of course, we can't have something like that. It would resemble something like the French Revolution.
