Is this real wood?

Featured Replies

I took this picture inside a Condo ( Olympus) of a wardrobe cupboardIMG20250908114336.jpg.d9d35573d3f046586554108690a7262d.jpg in Pattaya

I was going to make similar when I get back to Australia

But I'm told by a Thai person this is not real wood

What is it ?

The core of that material is probably either MDF or HDF which is then covered with a non-wood veneer with fake wood grain.

MDF is medium density fibreboard and HDF is high density fibreboard.  HDF is more expensive but stronger and more moisture resistant than MDF.

I would suggest if you cant tell that is real wood or not that you don't try to build anything yourself

Yeah, I would concur with MDF.

All our non-teak stuff is MDF, it's being replaced with real wood as it falls apart.

Some of the cabinets are being remarkably stubborn! :whistling:

Textured melamine on MDF or particle board. Plastic 3mm edge banding.
