The Royal Thai Police have initiated a recall of 9mm VENOM-brand ammunition after reports of the rounds exploding within guns, during firearm training sessions. The incidents occurred when officers used the ammunition during skill development exercises for law enforcement personnel. The explosions damaged the firearms involved, prompting immediate action from the police leadership.

The ammunition in question was procured by the Police Logistics Office in 2023 under contract number S.P.3/2567. The delivery was completed in July 2025 and the rounds were distributed to various police units for official use. Manufactured by Turkey’s MEDEF DEFENCE, the VENOM ammunition adheres to NATO standards and underwent quality assurance tests, including durability and performance evaluations, before acceptance.

In response to the incidents, Police General Kitirat Phanthaphat, the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, has ordered a thorough investigation. The inquiry will assess whether the ammunition specifications are compatible with the service firearms and whether the manufacturer complied with safety standards. The Police Logistics Office has temporarily suspended the use of the affected ammunition and is coordinating with the supplier to address the issue.

The supplier, MEDEF DEFENCE, is contractually obligated to ensure the quality of the ammunition and is responsible for any damages caused by defects. The Police Logistics Office has confirmed that the procurement process followed all regulatory procedures and that the ammunition met the required specifications at the time of delivery. The recall and investigation are part of efforts to maintain the safety and operational readiness of police personnel.

As the investigation progresses, the Royal Thai Police are committed to ensuring that all equipment used by officers meets the highest safety standards. The outcome of the inquiry will determine any necessary actions to rectify the situation and prevent future occurrences.

It's just as likely to be the service weapons that are to blame, whether they're defective, poorly maintained, or just worn out.

Or maybe they're P320s.  (Handgun afficionados will get that one)
