A violent gang attack in Chiang Mai left three people seriously injured in the early hours of 17 September 2025. The assault took place at around 00:20, in front of a convenience store next to a self-service laundry on the old San Kamphaeng Road, between Nong Prateep and Buak Krok Junction in Mueang district. Emergency teams from Kusolsongkroh Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai Special Rescue responded quickly and provided urgent medical care.

Police from Mae Ping Station confirmed that one of the victims, an 18-year-old girl, suffered a severed hand, at the wrist, after being struck with a machete. She was given emergency first aid at the scene to stem heavy bleeding before being rushed to hospital. Another victim, an 18-year-old male, lost his index finger in the attack, while a 19-year-old male sustained a deep wound to his back.

Witnesses told investigators that a group of 6 to 7 teenagers, reportedly ethnic Shan, carried out the assault. The suspects reportedly used knives and machetes, during the attack before fleeing the scene. Police recovered CCTV footage from the area, which is now being reviewed to identify those involved.

Authorities confirmed that the attack appeared to be a premeditated group assault rather than a spontaneous fight. The brutality of the injuries has prompted urgent concern among police and local communities about rising gang violence. Officials are working to verify whether the victims and attackers had previous disputes or if the assault was random.

Police investigators are coordinating with forensic teams and hospitals to document the victims’ injuries. Statements are being collected from those injured as well as bystanders who witnessed the assault. Officers stressed that identifying and arresting the perpetrators is now a priority, with efforts underway to track their movements immediately after the incident.

The three injured victims remain under medical supervision, with doctors working to treat the severe wounds. Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. Police are confident that the CCTV evidence will play a key role in locating and charging the gang members responsible.

Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, Luton, London.......any major city or town these days is full of knife crime. About time the government let us arm ourselves with handguns to protect ourselves against the knives!

Disgusting POS that did that to that young girl. Good job she got to a good hospital in time, if she had been up my way they would have probably sewed it onto her ear or put it on backwards, In fact, one of my local government hospitals would simply have removed the other hand to balance things out.
