Thai Military Shuts Cambodia Border Indefinitely Amid Tensions

Thailand needs to stop the encroachment by the Cambodians who are expanding their villages into Thai territory.  They are not respecting the border line by removing fencing and defying Thai troops.

 Rubbish!

It is the Thai military and its associated lackies that are encroaching onto already established Cambodian Territory.  That is why the Khmer civilians are trying to remove razor wire fencing and rubber tires to access their already established land and houses which were blocked from access by the invasive Thai military.

  • This is a good example of who is in charge in Thailand... The Government has nothing to say or do it seems..The army can however as they like...

  • As far back as I can remember the Thai army control everything, when they feel like it they kick the government out, as we all know,

  • Probably just be easier to just order a massive artillery strike to flatten these temples and then nothing to argue able.

Wrong. The "protests" and the fence is well within Thai territory, which the border markers prove. You can't simply extend a village over a border and then claim that the territory is your.

2) The article cites "recent clashes" as the reason - are these the clashes before the ceasefire aggreement or a new round of clashes after? (Probably should have included that info in the article since it is important information🙄)

Clashes after the ceasefire.

Probably an idiot question that's been dealt with many times before but it's just crossed my tiny mind ...what is happening with the people who need to do border bounces for their visas?

Go to another country than Cambodia.

Two questions:

1) Does the army have the authority to close the border without the government's approval?

Nah, they claim to have killed 25 Cambodians a day or two back.

I spoke to my Cambodian friend last night and I asked what was happening lately, he said there had been fighting for 2 days now. It’s long from over he said.

They can reply all they want with their nonsense. The markers were put there by French and Siamese surveyors when the border was officially demarcated.

Not a good way to mend relations with another country. The borders should be open for trade and work and with checks for those who come in, just as they were before. I don't think Cambodia wants to mess with Thailand's army anymore, although the higher up's don't care because they're many miles away hiding in their homes.

Mend getting attacked and having innocent civilians murdered? Thailand is a sovereign country. Cambodia needs Thailand not the other way around. Cambodia has North of 1 - 1.2 million illegal workers in Thailand.

As far as it's citizens, both countries need each other, for trade and work, as there are Thai's working in Cambodia also, along with the daily trade that occurs. Other countries that border have always worked this way, so mending relations is the best choice.
