GAZA (Reuters) - For a decade, Palestinian bank worker Shady Salama Al-Rayyes paid into a $93,000 mortgage on his flat in a tall, modern block in one of Gaza City's prime neighbourhoods. Now, he and his family are destitute, after fleeing an Israeli demolition strike that collapsed the building in a cloud of black smoke and dust.

The September 5 attack on the 15-storey Mushtaha Tower marked the start of an intensified Israeli military demolition campaign targeting high-rise buildings ahead of a ground assault towards the heart of the densely populated city, which started this week.

Palestinian Shady Salama Al-Rayyes, who fled his apartment in the 15-story Mushtaha Tower in Gaza City minutes before an Israeli strike hit the building, carries his belongings in Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, September 18,

Al-Rayyes said he feared the destruction was aimed at permanently clearing the population from Gaza City, a view shared by the U.N. Human Rights Office (OHCHR). Its spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said in a statement that such a deliberate effort to relocate the population would be tantamount to ethnic cleansing.

Nonsense Israeli propaganda.

What they mean is they have killed over 100 Palestinians of fighting age.

At this point, shouldn't Hamas consider surrendering?

How do you know exactly whom or what was hit ?

Did you just make it up ?

I believe that Israel considers all Palestinians of fighting age to be HAMAS.

If that were the case , then there wouldn't be any Palestinians of fighting age left in Gaza

That's a worthy goal. Of course, they can lay down their arms and wave the white flag if they want to keep living

Really?

You think Israel & the IDF would allow them to keep living if they surrendered?

I don't think so.

I suppose you have all sorts of documented examples of Hamas prisoners being executed

Be careful what you ask for...

1. UN Human Rights Office Report

  • The UN called for an independent investigation into the alleged summary execution of 11 unarmed Palestinian men in Gaza City’s Al Remal neighborhood in December 2023.

  • Witnesses described Israeli troops separating men from women and children, then shooting the men in front of their families.

  • The UN stated this could constitute a war crime and urged accountability.

2. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor

  • This NGO documented the execution of 13 children aged 4 to 16 around Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

  • Some were reportedly killed while following designated “safe” evacuation routes.

  • The organization described these acts as crimes against humanity and part of a broader genocidal campaign.

3. Ghost Unit Sniper Investigation

  • A joint probe by The Guardian and other outlets uncovered confessions from IDF snipers in a covert unit called the “Ghost Unit”.

  • One sniper admitted to killing an unarmed Palestinian teen trying to retrieve his brother’s body, calling it “my first execution.”

  • The unit allegedly killed over 100 civilians during its deployment, with evidence including geolocated imagery and medical records.

Broader Accusations

  • A UN commission of inquiry concluded that Israel has committed genocidal acts in Gaza, including killings, inflicting harm, and creating conditions to destroy the population.

  • Israel has denied these claims, calling them politically motivated and false.
