A 61-year-old construction worker allegedly fatally stabbed a 31-year-old nurse assistant in his vehicle in Phichit province on the night of 20 September 2025. The woman, identified as Ms. Pojana, died from multiple stab wounds to her chest, back and neck, while the suspect, Mr. Sombat, was critically injured after reportedly attempting to take his own life. Police and rescue teams were called to the scene on Road 117, near Ban Lai Ko, Nong Lum subdistrict.

 

Mr. Sombat, a construction contractor, had been in a relationship with Ms. Pojana for four to five months following the death of his wife a year earlier. On the day of the incident, he took a half-day from work, borrowed his employer's pickup truck, and drove to Sukhothai to collect her. During the return journey, a heated argument occurred in Phichit, reportedly triggered mostly by Mr. Sombat's jealousy over the couple's nearly 30-year age difference and fear she was seeing younger men.

 

Police reports indicate that Mr. Sombat used a knife he had brought with him to repeatedly stab Ms. Pojana, causing fatal injuries. He then phoned his employer to confess the killing and was advised to surrender to authorities. After the call, he attempted to end his own life with the same knife but survived, collapsing at the scene before being transported to Wachirabarami Hospital and later to the intensive care unit at Phichit Hospital in critical condition.

 

Phichit Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Thadet Klomklien stated the case appears to be motivated by jealousy. Investigators believe the fatal attack occurred inside the vehicle during the argument. Mr. Sombat remains in ICU, unable to provide further statements, while authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
