Without making light of it, it's still smaller than some of the potholes I've seen  in Australia.

No ones been hurt, so we can have a bit of fun with it 👍

No, it's not in any way "offensive"!

Just a bit nitwitish on your part, since, coming straight after the (genuine) raising of the truck, you had every right to be taken seriously.

Sorry if it's confusing....

The Prime Minister said he had instructed officials to ensure safety checks across the site and surrounding areas.

It seems that’s exactly what hadn’t happened before this massive hole appeared!

he affected area is within the construction zone of the Purple Line railway project, running from Tao Poon to Rat Burana

Interesting search I made on the internet (Google):-

The Purple Line metro system near Vajira Hospital was constructed by the joint venture ITD-NWR MRT (a partnership between Italian-Thai Development (ITD) and Nawarat Patanakarn). This construction is part of the southern extension project of the Purple Line, specifically for the tunnels and underground structures under Contract 1.

Please note the involvement of Ital-Thai, the company that was involved in the building of the State Audit Office tower that collapsed.

Cheap Chinese steel in tunnel linings?

This video is inThai language, but the animation shows that the rail tunnel roof collapsed, at the point it meets the new station, retaining concrete wall.

The soil is believed to have been loosened by a previous ongoing water leak, so when the tunnel roof failed, the soil flowed into the under construction station, leading to the sink hole.

Not quite right.

It's not the swampy area but because of pump off the ground water.

As the result there are now in some areas caveties, sometimes hollow as described.

Thai scientists estimate Bangkok under water (in rain season) by 2030.

Every year Bangkok sinks between 5 and 10 cm.

Had this occurred earlier this year they could have used the rubble from the earhquake collapsed government building to backfill this hole. Instead it is to be filled with individual sandbags?

Where, now, will the Purple Line tunnel be re-routed?

Interesting maybe, but completely false. Contract 1 (and Contract 2) are being constructed by a joint venture of CKST, Ch. Karnchang and Sino-Thai.

Is Sino Thai also involved in Rama II?

A big hole in the road in BKK, but fear not Anutin is looking into it !!!

I posted a similar description previous page.

The engineers video is brief and in English.

An unwelcome welcome for the new Prime Minister.

Let us see how quickly he can fix this problem - with his extensive expertise in construction one may expect a quick completion date.

Anutin's Chinese friends will come in and fix it with special blend materials.

I read it was CH Karnchang and STECON.

Yes indeed, and my apologies, but that was the information I genuinely obtained from Google - so much for AI!

From Wikipedia:-

For the new Southern Section of the line:- (Northern Section completed) Ital-Thai are involved in Contracts 3, 5 and 6.

A country without safety standards or inspections. Roads / Buildings / Bridges /  Train lines / Cars  / Buses / Trains / Crane erections.

Sure would not be the last. The above collapsed before.

Every department turn a blind eye, until something happens, and point blame on the contractor only.

More quality Thai engineering and construction.  I wonder what hand the mainlander Chinese had in this engineering and construction.

Got some examples of that, or just defaming the Thai legal system?

Well, you asked for it, the following two spring to mind:
The total collapse of the Royal Plaza Hotel on 13 August 1993 in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) killing 137 people and injuring 227. The owners had removed a supporting pillar in the coffee shop so the singers on the stage could be seen by all diners while the 150 tons of water on the roof was never taken into the equation.
The Royal Jomtien Resort Hotel on 11 July 1997 in North Jomtien/Pattaya burnt for almost 12 hours in all 17 floors and caused the deaths of at least 91 people and injuries to a further 63. The owners had locked the emergency exits to prevent "customers" leaving the premises without paying the bills.

Got it. There are never building fires with negligence in the West, or building collapses. Only in Thailand.

Having a bad, do we? The bad fire was not the fault but the locked emergency exits. The incident in Korat had nothing to do with fire either.

Get a life, have a drink and relax - seriously!

UPDATE
Anutin: Road Collapse Repairs to Take at Least One Year

image.jpeg

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on 24 September 2025 that repairing the damaged of the collapsed road and structure of the Purple Line subway tunnel could take no less than one year. The collapse on Samsen Road, in front of Vajira Hospital, has caused major disruption, though no casualties were reported. Anutin confirmed the matter will be treated as urgent in the first Cabinet meeting held later the same day.

Speaking at 11:30, Anutin, said he had already ordered officials to investigate the cause. He directed inquiries to the Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) for technical details. He stressed that while no injuries occurred, property damage must be thoroughly assessed and accountability determined.

The Prime Minister said he had instructed officials to ensure safety checks across the site and surrounding areas. He emphasised the importance of determining the exact cause of the collapse before any restoration works proceed. When asked if conditions would return to normal within the week, he replied that only temporary fixes could be expected soon, while full structural restoration would take at least a year.

Before leaving the area, Anutin observed the nearby Samsen Police Station with Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn. The low-rise building was flagged as vulnerable due to its shallow foundations. Authorities will also assess the adjacent police flats for potential risks linked to the collapse.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt lconfirmed that it is believed, the incident was caused by soil flowing into the Purple Line subway tunnel construction. The section runs from Parliament through Sam Sen, under the Chao Phraya River, and toward Suksawat. The collapse occurred at one of the most complex points of the project, the future Vajira Hospital station, which is located 30 metres underground.

Chadchart explained that cracks appeared in a shallow tunnel, about 15 metres deep, where soil began to flow into construction spaces. This weakened the surface road, causing it to cave in and bringing down utility poles while rupturing water pipes. The broken pipes worsened the problem by washing even more soil into the tunnel.

The incident has drawn urgent attention at the highest levels of government. Both immediate stabilisation works and long-term repairs will be required. Authorities are now under pressure to restore safety, complete investigations and minimise disruption to residents, hospital operations and surrounding infrastructure.

Key Takeaways

• Prime Minister Anutin said repairing the road collapse will take at least one year.

• Governor Chadchart confirmed soil seepage into the Purple Line tunnel caused the collapse.

• Authorities are assessing nearby police buildings and flats for structural risks.

They should put that piece of crap Anutin in the hole and fill it. Anutin is one of the most corrupt politicians in Thailand.
