What do you mean everywhere? Certainly not in Singapore, or Tokyo or Busan.

What is a decent salary for a Thai  police officer?

Do you even know what the  salaries are?

According to the Economic Research Institute,  Police Officer Salary in Thailand data shows.

THB 678,083 Average Salary

THB 326/hr Average Hourly

THB 15,664 Average Bonus

The salary data also shows an entry level police officer (1-3 years of experience) earns an average salary of ฿443,386. A senior level police officer (8+ years of experience) earns an average salary of ฿760,090

In comparison a retail  bank employee earns; Entry -฿241,151 and a Senior ฿378,630 per annum.

A good annual salary in Thailand depending upon location, ranges from฿480,000 to ฿950,000

The police have  generous benefits and pensions compared to non governmental  workers.Retirement  at age 55 after 15 years of service. Excellent health care  benefits.

Please tell me how police compensation is  not decent, when the police are compensated at a level that most of the Thai population can only dream about?

The white glove and look away job done saw nothing.I did that myself when i got caught for no helmet.got change and 100 baht later with the white glove.no problem

A few years back while riding on the back of the moto my buddy was driving, we got pulled over.  He offered to accept the fine, the ticket etc., not to bribe per se, but to just close things out on the spot and pay the fine.  Pattaya cop said no and he had to do the legwork later.  Bottom of soi 10 near beach road.  I can't recall what the infraction was.  I think just riding on a non roadway section?

"On the spot" fine as opposed to going thru the rigamarole at the police station, with the same end result. Don't see the problem, saves my time and it's not my business what he does with the money.

Maybe not - but then nobody gives a flying fook about other places

The whole country is on the take, all part of the place. Of course, it is all illegal, but knowing what Thai folk have to shell out to get a job, etc, is common knowledge, here..😏

If you say I will pay the official fine, does the Cop need to go back to the police station with you? Or does he just issue you a ticket and you pay at the station?

When you don't want to pay the cop, he gives you a ticket for the police station but you have to leave your bike in the meantime

Sorry, but this doesn't look like a tourist on a rental bike at all. None of the usual stickers to see.
Looks like an expat who was going a not allowed shortcut or so, when caught by the officer asking for a "discount" so he didn't have to go to the policestation and pay the higher fine.
15 years living in Chiang Mai i never got "extorted" or treated unfriendly by any Thai police officer (not to mention the Aussie dickhead volunteer who was giving the hard cop in town !) nor do I know anyone who got ripped off.

What stickers? Never had any stickers on any of my rental bikes.

followed by an exchange where the officer appears to accept money, allowing the foreigner to leave without charges.
