Thai Woman Sues Police After Father's Fatal Shooting

A Thai woman is suing police in Ratchaburi after her mentally ill father, Suraphon, was fatally shot by officers. The incident occurred on September 24 when police were called to Tha Rarb sub-district following reports of Suraphon brandishing a knife. The police claim that Suraphon approached them aggressively, leading to the shooting.

Suraphon, aged 60, was known to suffer from mental illness. According to the police, he charged at an officer who fell while retreating, after which another officer shot Suraphon in the leg to thwart a potential stabbing. Despite being rushed to the hospital by a rescue team, Suraphon died from blood loss before receiving medical attention.

Suraphon's daughter, who was not at home during the incident, later visited the hospital. Although she acknowledged her father’s mental health issues, she insisted he was under treatment and medication and had never hurt anyone. She argued that he was just cutting grass on the day of the incident and questioned the need to report him as a threat to the police.

The daughter accused the officers of excessive force and vowed to take legal action. An autopsy showed Suraphon had sustained a ruptured artery in his neck, exacerbating the blood loss that led to his death.

Deputy Commander of Ratchaburi Provincial Police, Siam Insuwanno, stated that Suraphon had a history of violent behavior based on multiple past complaints. He defended the police action, asserting that they had to respond to the threat in accordance with their training to protect themselves. He emphasized that the intent was not to kill Suraphon.

Looking forward, the deputy commander assured that a fair investigation would take place, addressing concerns from both the officers involved and the family. The legal proceedings initiated by Suraphon’s daughter are expected to proceed, potentially scrutinizing police procedures in handling mentally ill individuals.

Key Takeaways

  • A Thai woman sues police over her father's death following a shooting.
  • The police defend the act as necessary due to the man's aggressive behavior.
  • An investigation is promised to ensure justice for both parties involved.

Your family have no problem letting you roam around

And what do I do, you knowledgeable prophet of a man?

Time to invest in more less lethal options such as Tasers. In China and Japan  they use a blunt pitchfork device called a riot suppression device to pin and shock rioters etc, maybe better than shooting people.

Must've been a strange exit point as the post say he was shot in the leg ?

The daughter needs to look at reality, father was out of control on the day,

Maybe one (or other) of us has too much time on our hands.

What do you do, besides being an obnoxious blight on this planet.

Yeah, but you have to explain better, because people apparently let me roam the streets. Wasn´t that what you posted. Seems like you know everything, and after that you pose a question? Mean you don´t knew how it is? Or?

I think you are just too grumpy, to think about what you post, right?

But, ok, if you want to know. I am working, making a lot of money, spending time with wife and children. Sometimes taking trips around in Thailand, and sometimes outside the country. Eating 2-3 times a day. Love drinking beer. Do some workout to keep fit and healthy.

How does that sound? Is that kind of normal to you, or?

Neither a Prophet nor a Brain Surgeon, just a happily retired guy that gets you all fired up with just a few words  :cheesy:

Fired up? Was that an excuse for back tracking?

People like you who need to say I make a lot of money are the most insecure individuals roaming this planet

Over the years living here, so many come along talking about their wealth.

Without a pot to piss in, is how my father described them.

This sound familiar to you

Why?

So the cops can go back to deal with the guy time and again?  Nobody misses sleeping with one eye open because there's a violent nutter living under the same roof as them.  Those nutters 'aren't criminally responsible ' for their actions, either, so there's no downside to chopping people into quivering, bloody sushi whilst muttering religious mantras.

😂😂😂

Without a pot to piss in......???? What planet are you from? In my home we use a toilet.

And out of some reason you got hooked on one of the things I mentioned. It was you that asked, wasn´t it?

I think you are just taking over after your father, showing that little envy. I have not been talking about any wealth but said I just have a well-paid job. Actually, not a job, as I run the business.

Insecure? You must be describing yourself, looking for a great agent for next year's renewal of you permission to stay.

No, it didn´t sound familiar at all. The only thing you managed to do, was make a fool out of yourself with a pathetic reply.

Where would police officers get such devices? The police department certainly dont give them out. Police (certainly new recruits) must buy their own uniforms, weapons and bullets also. Tasers are a speciality item here and only certain units have them.
