Shooting dogs isn't the answer. A government that cares is. Shooting dogs that are pets that are loose isn't the answer either. It's pet owners themselves taking responsibility for their own. If Soi Dog was funded exponentially by the government, instead of buying submarines they'll never need,, more dogs would be fixed, which leaves less to breed, less problems, attacks and rabies spread.

Shooting soi dogs IS the answer, or poisoning, them Dead dogs are no longer a problem.

I've been a dog owner all my life so I know what they're like. I used to visit a place outside Kanchanaburi but I've stopped going now because there's a section of road with so many aggressive dogs that I just gave up on it. Somebody in the thread said just stand still if they're barking at you. I tried that and got surrounded by about 6 angry dogs, all snapping at me. The Thais just stood there and enjoyed watching me deal with their idiotic, untrained dogs. So I just kept swinging my umbrella at them until the backed off.

I like dogs as long as they're friendly but some of those dogs in Thailand should be put down. One stupid dog just teaches all the other dogs to be stupid too. That's why it continues.

That's why I've always been saying, it's the owners, the locals, responsibility to control this problem so it reduces. The government paying for a much larger spay/neuter program reduces the population, reduces attacks, rabies and accidents. People here are the dog problem, and if all factors are considered, meaning the government pays for protecting it's citizens, things will improve. If people don't care, someone else has to take matters into their hands.

pay the piper
phrase of piper

  1. bear the consequences of an action or activity that one has enjoyed.
"we will have to pay the piper, and the price is apt to be a high one"

''He who pays the Piper calls the Tune''  is the one I was referring to. Sorry.

I bow to your greater knowledge.

It's not only dogs which teach other dogs. School for example.

No strays or pack dogs allowed in our mooban, kids and old folks walking all the time in the area and a neighbor woman who’s hundred+ year old who walks to the corner shop just about every day.

Bullcrap when it comes to soi dogs. Both my kids were bit while simply riding their bikes. Years ago but the dogs are not longer with us.

It isn't bullcrap. How were those dogs treated in life? I have a half dozen dogs that call my house home, that aren't really mine, and they chase people to "protect" my property, but they aren't biting anyone, as I always teach them to be friendly and to back off, and I let the people back them off also.

If you're hitting dogs, all you're teaching them is to strike back, eventually, and that can be a child or elder that's just walking down the street. No one's going to do much of anything right now so the only recourse is to make friends with any dogs you come across. Anything else isn't working.

I know those from the UK say things differently than us in the US, so I understand.

You're encountering a few dogs out of millions of encounters here daily, which aren't bites but just bluffs. Again, how you treat dogs is how they treat you.

Tell ya what, until you've been through the bother and expense of getting a soi dog bite taken care of, you're just passing gas. Waxing philosophically on something of which you have no real world experience.

I travel all over Asia and it always baffles me why people get a dog, presumably to guard their property, but then they don't train them, so they just bark at every noise and everybody who walks past. That's not a guard dog. it's just annoying. And if one starts, they set off all the other idiotic dogs in the neighbourhood. And the owners ignore all the barking, which makes their guard dog completely pointless.

May be incorrect to you weird brits, but then again you guys call fries chips

This, from someone who calls a lady's bum her fanny.

Chips refer to Chipped potatoes.................which are then fried. 50/50 OK.

But really, I couldn't care less, or as you would say ''Could care less'

Soi Dog foundation just makes people think it's the answer, it's not, while they are jabbing 100 dogs a day a thousand are being born. Normal people want to be able to drive and ride without packs of dogs bothering them, they want to let the kids out without worrying they will be bitten, they want to be able to get to sleep at night free from yapping mutts. Soi Dog foundation jabbing a few dogs is never going to be the answer, they just make people feel better. They have never been in our area.

Take your personal hate out of the picture and what do you have? There's a reason you hate dogs, and millions look at them as companions, saviors protectors and those who help the disabled. Dogs are great animals, and are a major reason people with depression go on everyday. They have hurt many, mostly because of morons who don't train them properly, but they have saved many more in a number of situations.

Dont forget to think from the dogs perspective. Americans love dogs, dogs love them back

I've been bit twice. Once here and once in the US, and didn't like either. That didn't make me dislike dogs but respect them, treat them well, and researched enough to know why people hate and kill them. I have seen others bitten and attacked, so I understand what they feel, and most were dog lovers and also understand there are dogs that aren't to be trusted and it's usually the humans fault in some way. . I've also lived with dogs 69 years, so have first hand experience, along with everyone I know having dogs, and being around them.

Apples and oranges. We're discussing dangerous wild soi dogs.

Well I'm the opposite, all I've seen and heard of is foreigners who don't like the Soi dogs as they are walking down the street.

Check this out. Guy has a big off-grid farm, no houses nearby, His dog is walking around on the dirt road in front of his house and some guys drive by on a motorbike and slash its back.

What's the answer then? Neutering?

All I know is that I learned proper English from birth, and It's certain Brits who speak where many can't understand what they're saying. It doesn't matter what anyone considers proper, as long as they understand when others speak. Some are heavily accented . Original English actually came from Germanic peoples who then migrated to England.

Euthanizing them.

I asked out city councilman in Bangkok to send animal control out to remove the pack of five soi dogs on our street. He said the shelters were too full and they were busy, so only removed them after they become highly aggressive. I told him the old lady who likes to take a walk now has to carry a stick to scare them away, but that wasn't enough to do anything except send me an emoji with wide-open eyes.

😱

And I'm still saying there is only one humane way to control this problem. I know what a dog is capable of just as I know what a wild deer is capable of, even though their attacks on humans are limited. If a dog attacks a human, it should be put down. Not moved to another location.

The government using the millions of baht set aside for useless submarines and other military weaponry and putting it towards protecting their citizens from an over population of dogs they caused.

I think part of the problem might be that Buddhists believe all beings are our ancestors (or something like that) so killing them is wrong. Lots of people feed stray dogs, which obviously doesn't help.

Extermination nationwide, other countries have done it.

Which is a major reason some shouldn't own dogs, nor have children for another matter.

There's no footage, nothing to confirm his theory.

Maybe the dog brushed up against a sharp object.

Maybe it was a foreigner with a machete

A few years back, there was an incident on soi Kophai, a foreigner grabbing a machete from the back of his vehicle to attack a Thai driver (road rage)

BTW, the dog story starts around 6 minutes on the video, next time show some ambition, point this out, saves us a lot of time.

You'll find, just by reading the many AN FORUM THREADS, lots of foreigners here complaining about the Thai's.

Often wondered myself, probably one of the details of cleanup crew, the trash collectors come around at about 0400am, so maybe they deal with it then. The pooyaban and his henchmen keep things clean and running smoothly around here, the wife is always commenting about it as though it’s an anomaly.
