Many guys are happy dragging the girlfriend/wife around 24/7, personally i would get her out for a job so you have freedom, coffee shop, restaurant, salon etc

Once they've taken the kids to school, what do they do all day before collecting the kids after school?

Here in Thailand, I even used to take and collect my son ...... while she played on her phone.

Most of the people I've ever known in the US, couples, both worked. My mom worked when I was young, at a supermarket, because it helped and she also liked being out of the house for awhile when we were at school. Every friend I have in New Jersey, part of couples, including my brother and his wife, which is one of the most expensive states to live,  were all making good money, and had to work to make ends meet. This is throughout America, a country where the majority, no matter how many assets they had, were just getting by, with a lot of debt.

My family always had plenty of money, the women never worked.

I guess poor people lived different lives to us.

Quite different in the US. Even those who are well off have both parents working. Not many want to just stay home. Not just the poor because living in many places in America costs quite a lot, especially if you have children.

The woman working culture goes back to WW2 when women had to work to keep the war industry going while the fit men fighting. 

 

The women fighted hard to keep their rights to work, abut still it didn’t become normal before in the 60ies, same as European countries more or less. Russia already had a educated and hard working women class before any of us, and did see to importance of women in every field om importance. Same as China now do involve women in every aspect of the country future.

It's not going backwards for women to want to contribute and get out of the house. Sometimes it's necessary to make ends meet and some like to stay active. Every population goes up, which means more competition and higher costs, which one paycheck might not cover. Most people in the US save all year just to take a vacation for a week or two with their families. It may be different in small countries but in the US, this is the way.

@BritManToo That's an extremely blinkered view of the lives of married women around the world. Do you imagined they all drive 4x4 AWD to take and collect the kids?  You created a world wherein you pay for everything and then assume the whole world is the same...

I grew up in an environment wherein my mum refused any money from my dad. Some of the girls in my family read at Cambridge. 

Choosing women who are dependent on you is a choice. It's not something endemic in my life.

I thought the new government wanted women back in the house, and also just keep them in positions normal dedicated work for women. Like nurses, cleaning, etc

It doesn't matter what anyone, including the government wants. Reality is there and won't change. Population goes up, things cost more. Many thousands in America living paycheck to paycheck, a few missed payments from losing their homes, and many do everyday. If you don't live there, you can't imagine what goes on there.

@MalcolmB It's not obvious. Back then it wasn't that unusual to have working girls in that age range. Also, 'English teachers' might head up-country to find some 'farm-fresh' girls. Not suggesting @BritManToo had anything to do with either of those things. Just stating that there were are probably still are very young girls in the system.

No, they're all assumptions. If you don't know but a few of the 340 million, you have no idea what they do, even more so if you don't live there. There are over 170 million passport holders in the US, more than half the population. Subtract the millions of  children who don't have them. Looking at how many Americans take vacations, fish, hunt, go to concerts, sporting events, work, bars, beaches, travel around the US and international yearly, eat out, along with many other things, it appears they do get out. And if you only know 7 Americans, maybe, it's not but an infintesimal amount of all Americans, so how would you know who thinks Thais are from Taiwan?
