Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presented his government's policy direction on September 29, prioritizing tourism recovery, economic reform, and regional diplomacy. The focus is on restoring tourist confidence, combating scams targeting visitors, and promoting domestic travel. Anutin also emphasized resolving tensions with Cambodia and improving Thailand's international image through proactive foreign policy.

In response to the ongoing trade war, Anutin announced the creation of "Team Thailand," a task force dedicated to supporting business operators and attracting investment by fostering a competitive economic environment. Domestically, the government aims to raise incomes, reduce household expenses, tackle personal debt, enhance liquidity, and promote long-term savings to alleviate living costs.

Anutin pledged to crack down on corruption and illegal gambling, strengthen legal enforcement, and protect religious freedoms. Disaster alert systems will be upgraded in high-risk areas, with expedited support for flood and natural disaster victims. Additionally, Anutin backed a public referendum on constitutional reform, acknowledging his government as a temporary, minority administration that will not propose a national budget.

His premiership followed support from the opposition-led People’s Party, victorious in the last general election, with an understanding that Parliament would dissolve within four months of his policy announcement. Recently, a transport initiative was launched to lower living costs, beginning with a four-month fare reduction plan for trains, buses, and expressways, as explained by Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.

Debate is ongoing over Bhumjaithai's proposed 40-baht flat fare for Bangkok's rail network, amid concerns that the initial 20-baht policy may be abandoned due to subsidy issues.

Key Takeaways

  • Anutin targets tourism recovery and economic reform, emphasizing visitor safety.
  • "Team Thailand" will support businesses amid the trade war, fostering investment.
  • A public referendum on constitutional reform is backed, with parliament dissolution expected soon.

That's not going to do diddly squat.

Make the baht weaker, that'll do the trick!

The elites dont want that to happen... and it wont happen.

Needs tighter controls on bad visitors.

More checks needed, and an abandonment of the new long term visas including DTV without a criminal record check and proper checks on savings.

Make the value of the baht more realistic and stop the police raids on nightclubs.

While I did not like Anutin's comments about "Caucasians spreading Covid", he seems to be a bit more capable than he originally appeared with his obnoxious comments.

Not much on Thai business growth or industry, offering job opportunities to the population..

Just tourism, flogging a dying horse.

Ah, news from the chief-in-words. The same group of people he tries to attract now to come back do remember very well his comments on "dirty farang" who would have to "shower".

Most entertaining; he might be the big wig but certainly has not the slightest clue of both, tourism and economy recovery which - in all fairness - could have much less impact if Thailand would not have been ridden by a succession of incompetent, greedy government officials.

The sufferers are his own electorate, the Thai voters, tax payers and citizen with empty restaurant of mostly poor food, overpriced empty hotel rooms, poor - if any - understanding of service and an arrogant over self-confident attitude, zero common sense for other non-Thai priorities ....... the list is endless 😞

How?

Pretty well everything he mentioned were internal issues.
