You can always try North Sentinel Island, though if you push a ladyboy there your outcome would be a tad more graphic.

Never heard of the place!

Of course if you have good luck to  you in your search for meaningful life aspirations ,it's far better than sitting on level 16 of the Pattaya Hilton

Look it up before you go. I'm not looking for anything aspiring, just looking forward to going back home.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sentinel_Island

Yes !

unless your on welfare ,pension unemployment etc then you can use a "bulk billing " doctor who charges the government

Otherwise it's around $65 (1200b)  after Government rebate ,what a ripoff for his rushed 3 minutes !

Then he says can you come back tomorrow so I can check you again...

Lol, I don't think you need to push anyone there to have the same graphic outcome 🙂

Just show my card and have free unlimited entry to as many doctors as I want. I already billed them around the equivalent of 200k baht for various doctors, endoscopy, colonoscopy, imaging sessions and hardly had to wait for any appointments. Medical care in canada at least where I live is much better than Thailand.

Yes, I've had friends of many nationalities, creeds and races, and look at everyone the same. I have a half Thai child, Thai girlfriend, one great friend was Hispanic, family members who are gay, workout partners of many races, et al.

I loved Da Nang, stayed at the Centre Hotel, double room, nice and clean, about 300 Baht /night - similar hotel in Bangkok would easily be over 1000 Baht - One thing  though about the Vietnamese hotels, their bathrooms are a bit strange. You go into the bathroom and there is a massive 8 foot by 4 foot picture window in the bathroom that looks into THE BEDROOM! You can take a dump in full view of anyone in the room at the time, makes a nice change I suppose.

I meant to say that I made a terrible mistake by going to the tourist trap - Hoi An, if you hate fake tourist areas, give this place a wide berth, it was horrible, fake, scammers, rip off fruit sellers. There is so much more interesting places to visit, Hoi An is the worst place I have visited there.

Hoi An, totally agree, the old city has beautiful buildings, but they are now either a restaurant, coffee shop, art shop or souvenir shop.

A waste of time to visit, there better places to visit in Viet Nam

True expensive if your renting in Australia but I don't

And it would be hard for a pensioner to rent in Australia unless they get government housing .

Oh please ,the only way we will believe your not racist is to go back to the UK and hold that sign "Welcome all refugees" as the boat is unloading with all the poor Muslim people

Well I have been sick the last few days since I got back to Australia

Unfortunately cold flu caused by the airline I flew back on and I have lodged a 4 page complaint letter to the CEO , I thought he would of contacted me by now

I must say I had a beautiful short stroll in the sunlight this morning in Sydney not too hot ,not too cold and was far relaxed not hearing screaming motorbikes speeding,or  having to spin my head continually on a swivel to look for bikes coming up my rear end !

Nor people who are completely oblivious to me on a sidewalk walking into me like they did in Pattaya

Some very ignorant people in Pattaya and please don't be racist but some people are completely oblivious and walk right into you

Why would I go back to the UK if I'm from the US? Not wanting illegals into any country isn't about racism but putting your own citizens first, and then allowing legal immigrants to come in, hoping they'll be productive.

Absolutely !

Where?

Depends on on whether you like the beach with many expats or scenery with little expats.

If I chose the beach I would live on Koh Chang. If you like the quieter life I would choose Nong Khai which overlooks the Mekhong and laos

I worked in Tra Vinh province, 190km to HCMC Airport. It took 4-5hrs to do that journey as Vietnam's infrastructure is poor.

On that long journey there were very few places for a piss stop. There was not one beautiful petrol stations every few kms like here with food, drinks, clean toilets. Stop the car at the side of the road for a piss. Infrastructure poor.

The province I stayed had one supermarket, in Tra Vinh town. It was small and basic. Before I left a small shopping mall opened. Poor infrastructure.

I've lived in Thailand many decades. Never felt any danger or threat. In Vietnam, keep your doors locked.

I like District 1 in HCMC, it has everything you get in suburbs of BKK but it's smaller. I could live in HCMC for periods but the nonstop horn-beeping would get to me.

Vietnam, and I exclude HCMC and the smaller Hanoi here, is ahead of Laos but is not even up where Thailand was in the 1980s. Yes Vietnam now has a couple of resort towns, but step away from the big cities and Vietnam is still VERY basic.

Cultural wise, Vietnam doesn't have the land of smiles attitude. It's definitely not as friendly laid back place as here. That could be partially due to the American war as they call it. Could be due to the communist setup and the fear of the police.

I've caught colds from others on a few flights, but you can't blame the airline. Not much one can do on an 11 hours international flight but wear a mask anytime you're not eating. As far as people walking into you, the older Chinese women have that down pat. They won't budge an inch when you're walking towards them.

My Viet GF of ten years and her niece and daughter visited together back in 2001/2002

I enjoyed the beach towns and also visited Family were from Can Tho in the South.

Your comparrisons are to me right on. Thailand ten years now.

My most disturbing take was seeing the lack of opportunity that was so apparent.

The Vietnames as far as American influance was as a culture they emmulated true Capitalism like Americans wished they could. IMO
