A Thai BMW driver caused a significant pile-up on Ratchaphruek Road, Nonthaburi, running against the traffic and impacting 10 vehicles. Police found two separate collisions: one involving five cars, including Porsche models, and another triggered by the BMW on a bridge, severely damaging its bumper. The driver, Paphatsarin, admitted to a little backtracking, but she was found to have been driving against traffic for over five kilometers with a blood alcohol level of 205 mg%.

The incident unfolded as Paphatsarin's BMW collided with a coconut-laden pickup truck, causing abrupt reactions from other drivers trying to avoid the crash. The result was a chain of collisions, which sent the pickup driver, Chairat Sompithak, to the hospital with injuries. Paphatsarin, who showed signs of intoxication, was unable to provide a coherent statement, claiming minimal alcohol consumption despite test results proving otherwise.

Reaction from law enforcement included detaining Paphatsarin for further questioning, with legal action pending. Twelve victims of the crash also provided statements at the police station. Meanwhile, this event follows a similar crash last November involving another Thai BMW driver that resulted in fatalities, highlighting growing concerns over reckless driving and alcohol consumption.

Looking forward, authorities are focused on enforcing stricter laws and penalties for driving under the influence to prevent such incidents. The ongoing investigation will determine the consequences Paphatsarin faces, aiming to address public safety and deter future occurrences. As the case develops, it will likely stimulate discussions on road safety measures and legislative reforms to curb impaired driving.

Key Takeaways

  • A BMW driver caused chaos by driving against traffic, involving 10 vehicles.
  • The driver was found extremely intoxicated, with serious legal consequences pending.
  • This incident echoes past tragedies, prompting calls for stringent road safety laws.

Permanent confiscation of her car, along with a 2 million baht fine payable within 60 days or a 5-year prison sentence would be an appropriate punishment for what appears to be a rather ridiculous level of traffic violations and causing multiple accident due to recklessness and intoxication.

An example simply has to be set regardless of her position in society, and regardless of her wealth, or what does the justice system mean to the average person?

Even when the Thais are not intoxicated many are a public danger on the streets. But no worry. the cops target only foreigners/tourists and no problem for the rash locals. Carry on the good work.
