Retirement extension and passport validity

Featured Replies

When getting the yearly extension, if the passport has less than a year left is it still the case the extension only goes to the passport date?

the reason i ask is someone posted a couple months ago that he still had a year date

If your passport expires before the full year then the extension will be limited to the passports expiration date, extensions cannot exceed a passport validity period. If you have less than six months left on the passport then no extension is possible.

Yes on your first point.

On your second point, that is the first time I have ever heard that assertion.

Therefore, I don't believe it.

Can you supply a credible source to back that up?

If, when applying for your yearly extension, your passport validity is less than one year then your extension date will be adjusted accordingly.

i.e. If you are applying for extension now and your passport expires in July 2026 your extension date will be adjusted to July 2026.

Many on here will renew their passport early, up to 18 months early, to avoid the hassle of two extensions in one year.

Exactly what I'm planning to do, booked the appointment already but just a final check to see if it's changed

No, you’re probably right. I must have read something somewhere about it, thanks though.

The 6 month validity requirement is part of requirements for example obtaining eVisa for Thailand.

By way of example (below) is cut/paste from guide from Doha eVisa advice..

AI will state 6 month validity is required.

Thailand does not have the "6 month rule" so it's possible immigration would issue extension up till expiry of pp.

Let's face it as posted is previous thread to allow, pp to drop to below even a year validity is IMO just nuts.

"Required Documents:

  1. Biodata page of Passport or Travel Document (Passport/travel document must have validity of more than 6 months on travel date)"
