A 25-year-old man survived a horrific crash in Nakhon Ratchasima on 4 October when he veered his car off the road, crashed and split the car in two, after he fell asleep at the wheel. Emergency rescue teams credited the driver’s survival to seatbelt use and the vehicle’s safety systems, including airbags. The driver sustained facial injuries but remained conscious and was rushed to hospital.

The incident occurred on Highway 304 near KR Starch Factory and Suratham Phithak Camp in Pratu Yai Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District. Rescue teams from Huk 31 Korat arrived promptly after receiving the emergency call and found a grey Honda car in a ditch, severely damaged and split into two sections. The driver, identified as Wisawachit, was trapped in the wreckage with injuries.

Emergency responders provided first aid, including oxygen, before transferring him to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for further treatment. The driver told rescuers that he had just finished work and was driving home when he dozed off at the wheel. His car lost control, veered into the median ditch and collided with several trees before coming to rest.

Despite the severity of the crash, Wisawachit credited seatbelt use and the vehicle’s airbags for saving his life. Airbags deployed swiftly behind the steering wheel and dashboard, absorbing much of the impact. Police and officials are investigating the incident and urge drivers to avoid fatigue-related incidents.
