WSJ: The Embarrassing Pete Hegseth

So, who's more embarrassing?  Pete, or the WSJ?

Along with the rest of the MSM, they're suffering the worst ratings and lowest credibility in the history of the American press.

Meanwhile, I hear the military recruiting is up.

Yes indeed.

US military recruiting is up significantly in fiscal year 2025 (FY25, October 2024–September 2025) compared to previous years, marking a continued rebound from the post-pandemic slump. All major branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force) are on track to meet or exceed their goals, with the Army already achieving its target four months early. This follows FY24's success, where enlistments rose 12.5–14% overall, totaling around 225,000–146,473 new recruits across active and reserve components (up from FY23 lows).

The left's hysteria over Hegseth reminds much of their unhinged hysteria over Brett Kavanaugh. Also complete nonsense accusations by deranged haters trying to destroy a persins life because they dare

Rising inflation and stagnant wages have made military pay more attractive.

A Pentagon survey showed over half of 16–21-year-olds cited financial incentives ($50,000 sign up) as their top reason for considering service.

Maybe they were thinking, hey, this guy from Fox was an infantry officer in the U.S. Army National Guard for about 20 years, and he had:

  • Active-duty deployments in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Two Bronze Stars
  • Joint Commendation Medal
  • Two Army Commendation Medals
  • Combat Infantryman Badge
  • Expert Infantryman Badge

As well as an undergrad from Princeton, and a master's from Harvard.

And as far as his on-the-job performance, Hegseth's fiscal Year 2025 recruiting results were:

  • Army: Surpassed its recruiting goal of 61,000 active-duty soldiers four months early. This was a 10% increase over the previous year's target.
  • Navy: Met its enlisted goal of 40,600 sailors three months ahead of schedule and ended the fiscal year with 44,096 recruits, its highest number since the early 2000s.
  • Air Force: Met its active-duty goal of nearly 30,000 airmen three months early.
  • Space Force: Exceeded its recruiting goal for the sixth consecutive year, meeting its 2025 target three months early.
  • Marine Corps: Hit its enlisted recruiting goals for the year. The Marine Corps benefits from smaller recruiting targets compared to other branches.

Were they thinking that, or were they were missing the drag-queen shows?

Don't insult active service veterans. Hegseth was not a combat soldier. His work in Iraq was a desk jockey doing civil affairs aka PR. He took newsmedia for staged interviews. He did not participate in any combat interactions. his limited time in Afghanistan was at the training school.  The USA  gives commendations and medals for tying ones shoes properly. The Bronze stars he received were for meritorious achievement. They do not include the V which is for Valor, that  people who are in high risk situations face. It's great that he served, but please don't hold him out to be a hero, because he is not. The kid who was blown up by an IED while on patrol, or the aircrew that crashed while on a mission, or retrieved personnel from the field under fire are the heros. The person who serviced their equipment under difficult conditions is a hero. The man who was often pickled and enjoying a comfortable life with warm meals at the officer's mess and who had a nice bed and clean sheets to sleep in  had it easy compared to the field personnel.

As for the recruitment  levels you reference, you are leaving out critical information. The pay raises that started in 2023  have had a big impact.  yes, recruitment is up for 2025, by it was up in 2024  as well, by 60% over the previous year.  Recruitment levels were reduced during the  Covid pandemic. Recruitment targets were kept low in 2023 and 2024 to better  process intake and to reflect  a reduction of interest.  This created a pool of recruits that were willing to enlist but who could not.   All that has happened is that 2025 is taking in the  overflow of potential recruits that were delayed over the past 4 years. More importantly are this year's signing bonuses. The USMC chose not to offer bonuses.

Hegseth is inept and a poor cabinet secretary.

Where's Fani Willis? Oh, that's right, she's been ordered to pay $54K in fees, she's under investigation, and the case she drummed up against Trump is likely going be dismissed in the next few weeks.

Trump oftentimes will confuse a polished presentation with one of substance, and Hegseth embarrassed himself and his nation deeply with his ridiculous speech about being overly aggressive, and not following any aspect of the Geneva Convention, while pursuing the enemy. The military does not pay him any regard other than the fact that they are forced to obey the chain of command. My guess is that the man is an absolute laughing stock throughout all ranks and files, we witnessed the somber tone on the faces of the high ranking officers, Admirals and Generals, and the rather astonishing lack of applause for either Petie or Donnie.

They both like to play tough, they both like to act up, but they're both cowards and they are bordering on being traitors to their nation.

The fact that Hegseth is annoying the left and feminists this much is a just another bonus to this wonderful presidency.

It's good to see someone bring order and discipline back to the military.

And the writing of the WSJ is really going downhill, what a clown article.

Nothing like a little bit of truth in the face of massive amounts of disinformation, and undue praise for a truly mediocre man.

Become a Fox News host first to impress Trump, and then do a significant amount of butt kissing, and you got the job.

This always happens when lots of people lose their jobs. I have clearly and simply explained this to you already but it, unsurprisingly, seems you don't get it.

Do you want me to try again in even simpler terms, buddy?

How many lost their military careers because they didn't take the mandated jabs? Jabs by the way that wouldn't protect them from getting or spreading Covid. BTW do you think a man who wears a dress and thinks he's a woman should be an admiral?

Sec. Hegseth and the building of patriots: Faith, freedom and sacrifice

https://www.rsbnetwork.com/opinion/sec-hegseth-and-the-building-of-patriots-faith-freedom-and-sacrifice/

An interesting article about how the Secretary of War, Peter Hegseth espouses Faith, freedom and sacrifice. Quite the change from old Biden's Secretary that encouraged, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to the detriment of the fighting quality of the military. The United States is very fortunate to have Hegseth as secretary and lets hope the fat generals will realize this and slim down or the heck out.

Where did you graduate from again? Otago Polytechnic, right?

As a retired university professor, let me assure you that a LOT of really stupid people graduate. Not 'ignorant.' 'Stupid.' They may be able to pass a test, yet still be unable to find their own ass with both hands, and get a degree. Did you attend university? Didn't you know one or two people who made you wonder how they managed to even stay matriculated?

Yeah, the stupidest ones often become professors. As they say, those that can't do, teach.

I do not remember anyone being stupid in my graduating class, except for me of course.

Were you a professor at Princeton and Harvard? I suspect the odds of "really stupid people" graduating from there are drastically reduced, though it does happen on occasion of course, we all remember Daniel Goldhagen and his garbage.

I went to university and law school. I only met highly intelligent people. What was curious was that some of the brightest students in law school,  whom we considered our equals, did not get a training contract. That can be a lottery.

But I suspect the odds of "really stupid people" graduating from Princeton and Harvard, are very low indeed, though it does happen of course, you're quite right.

This is true. I attended a university. A professor, lecturers and tutors attended some of my parties so I wasn't among the "stupid". This was in the days when universities were about learning not indoctrination. I met dumb people sure but I met more a lot more smart people. Universities were about exchange of ideas. The radical left has taken over.

And of course, the $50K was put in place in 2022

And it is up to $50K, which would take a combination of several different bonussed
