i thought hotels and restaurants were always allowed to serve alcohol on Thai holidays, just not bars, pubs etc.. Shows how much I know,

BTW what Thai holiday is it today? I looked up a list and it didn't show today. Only one next week 13th for  the old King.

End of Buddhist Lent. Traditionally also the end of the wet season whereas the beginning of Buddhist Lent ushers in the wet season.

Theoretically, the table that upped and left could have spent well in excess of 20,000 baht for their lunch considering they were a group of around 10 people.   The locals lose out again.

The french family (around 10 people) certainly seemed to think so! Another local business bites the dust..

Only if that (clearly failing) business relied on the custom of that one French family.

Theoretically, and much more likely, the table that upped and left would have spent well less than 20,000 baht for their lunch considering they were a group of around 10 people...not many children's lunch costs B2000.

The gentleman, quite rightly in my opinion, said to the waitress 'we are not children! no wonder nobody is coming to Thailand anymore!'

Clearly, a very stupid, intolerant man.

Why shouldn't Buddhists be allowed to, if they want to?  Buddhism isn't even really a religion.  Thailand is ridiculous at times.

If you had even bothered to read my OP you would know that this happened in a restaurant where the family of 10 ADULTS

If you had even bothered to proofread your own OP you would know that you described a family,  generally a suggestion that there would be children there.
