Annual fees to be paid to the bank.

Featured Replies

What are the fixed fees paid to the bank each year? Are they always deducted in the same period, or can  happen in different months? I have a regular savings account and a debit card. Thanks.

An annual ATM card fee is normal, if you cancel the card then no annual fee.

They used to charge for sms alerts, not sure if they still do, just cancel

I'm anti bank fees, so I have none.  Don't have debit card, though not allowed with US Soc Sec DD account.   Cancelled previous debit card on other accounts I had, as paying to access my money is just silly.

Use my wife as example, as my account is limited.  She has no fee account, no ATM, as also doesn't want to pay a fee to access money.   She has to go to the bank anyway, so just withdrawals what ever she needs, which isn't much.   My account is the living & play money account.

She uses online paying, QR & transfers for any purchases.   I'm all cash, and have to go to the bank every 3rd month anyway, (to avoid FBAR filing ) so just transfer to her account what we don't need, and we keep in cash, COH, what we will need for the next 3 months.   So all fee free.

She has a no fee CC, paid off monthly before interest applied, so all our banking is fee free.

So just annual ATM card fee, right?

Yes for a no thrills savings account. 100 to 400 usually for ATM card that also serves as a debit card.

SMS alert cost extra.

Kasikorn deducts 20 Baht/month for that.

My new Krungsri account also has alert function.

Not sure whether it is included in the 400 Baht yearly

And they do that every year the same month or there is not a fixed month for that?

As far as I remember same month counting from opening of the account.

Would have to dig through account statements to be sure.

All these questions simply because I think I have 200 THB less in my account and I'm absolutely sure I didn't take them, and I think the bank withholds the fees in October/November. My fear is that someone might steal my money, but I assume that, if that were the case, they would have taken more than 200 THB. Besides, I always use the ATMs inside various shopping centers where, I believe, they are less exposed to theft.

Bangkok bank annual debit card fee 300 BHT.
I also enabled SMS, 15 BHT per month, so notified of all transactions including an advance text of when the annual fee and how much will be taken.

Doesn't have Bangkok bank this function through the app. With Kasikorn I get a sound notification through the app, and by email, both free.

Bangkok bank send an SMS message to your phone.

I understood that, and Kasikorn also has the option, but you have to pay a monthly fee.

The notification through the app has the exact same result, I get an instant sound notification and pop up message on my phone, without any fee attached.

I don't use the APP.

For the offliners.

Take your bank book (passbook), go to the nearest update machine (branch) and print.

What's all the fuss about.

I am online and have alerts.

Would jump from the lounger if anything unexpected comes up.

Same, immediately alerted to any/all transactions through my account.

Would have been useful if you had mentioned which bank.......

Adding to the above SCB sent me a text 3 weeks before and it has always been the same date every year for the deduction.

However I don't remember getting texts years ago when the online system was in place and I don't pay anything extra for any notifications.

Look at your statement and you'll see if 200 THB has been deducted and what for.

Similar here - my KTB account has an annual fee of 600 bt ( has some insurance included ) . The anniversary date for opening is November , but when I checked via ATM , the balance was 600 less than expected . Not in the country atm so can`t get a statement but I assume the missing funds represent the annual fee and were taken early for some reason .

I have a krungsri account with a debit card. No annual fee, just when it expires (I think 5 year validity)

Banks  are of course expected to charge the same rates no matter if a Thai or falang customer. One may question however if there is some special rate list for the falang customer ? That is usually maybe a big higher ?

Please correct me if I am wrong but as far as I can recall there is an annual fee for Thai bank account. The fee is charged on December 1 each year UNLESS a deposit of THB1000 or more is made during the month of November.

Is this fee still being charged?

Some banks charge a fee if the account is inactive more than 12 months and the balance is under ฿2000.

There's an annual charge if you have an ATM card, cancel that and no charge

Just got the following message from BBL.

My debit card was issued in December and expires in that month in a few years so I think it’s the fee for that.

Despite the validity date of the card, the annual fee is 300 BHT.
The debit card will be renewed for free when it expires.

The fee is for the card. No card, no fee.
