Police in Pattaya City arrested a man yesterday, October 12, after he was found asleep at the wheel of a pickup truck, blocking an intersection. The incident, which took place at around 3:30 a.m. in north Pattaya, was reported by concerned citizens who noticed the stationary black MG truck obstructing traffic despite a green light.

Police and bystanders spent over 20 minutes attempting to wake the driver by knocking on his window. The man, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, eventually woke up but appeared disoriented. Officers confirmed the absence of a health emergency but noted his strong alcohol odor, discovering beer bottles in the vehicle.

Due to his intoxicated condition, the driver was unable to respond to basic questions, and his identity was not immediately established. He was subsequently detained and taken to Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings, including DUI charges.

On October 11, another incident in Pattaya involved a violent altercation between two friends, resulting in one suffering a severe injury. The altercation occurred at approximately 10:06 p.m. at a commercial venue in the Khao Talo area and stemmed from a work-related argument over who was the better employee.

The alleged assailant, 33-year-old Adisong Phol Yang Nok, remained at the scene and explained to police that the argument escalated as they drank. "As the alcohol kicked in, we started arguing about our jobs," Adisong said, detailing how the fight turned physical, leading to him striking his friend with a beer bottle in self-defense.

Key Takeaways

  • A drunk driver was detained in Pattaya City for obstructing an intersection.
  • Another incident involved a man being injured in an alcohol-fueled dispute.
  • Police are pursuing legal action in both instances related to alcohol misuse.

These late opening times are proving problematic. Perhaps closing 30 minutes earlier would be beneficial, and they can fall asleep closer to home, or in their driveway, where it impacts traffic less.

Cut out these absurd day time restrictions at convenience stores etc and make midnight the cut off time for all alcohol outlets including bars and clubs. People would hit the fart sack several hours earlier and it would reduce early morning violence.

So who ended up being the better employee?

I'm guessing neither, as they've both been sacked.
