A foreign man has drawn widespread criticism from Thai netizens after being filmed performing push-ups on a public road in Phuket. The incident, captured on a viral TikTok video, sparked debate about safety and respect for traffic laws. Many social media users condemned the stunt as reckless and inappropriate, while others expressed amusement at the man’s unusual behaviour.

The video was posted on October 19 by TikTok user @abudawut, who captioned it, “Everybody is crazy. A thousand strange things are possible in Phuket.” It showed the man parking his motorcycle on the traffic divide, before setting up a camera and performing six push-ups while waiting at a red traffic light. The clip quickly circulated online, drawing both criticism and curiosity, with some viewers saying they wanted to see the final version of his recording.

Netizens commented that such behaviour could harm Phuket’s reputation if the video were used to mock or misrepresent the island. One viewer wrote, “If he uses this video to say something wrong about Phuket, that will be a problem,” while another added, “Phuket only!” Others questioned the motivation behind the act, asking, “For what?” and “Is he trying to say that red lights in Phuket are so wrong that it justifies push-ups?”

According to Thailand’s Land Transport Act, the foreign man’s actions may violate Section 55(8), which prohibits obstructing traffic and carries a fine of up to 500 baht. It was also noted that Section 385 of the Criminal Law could apply, as it bans obstructing public roads in ways that endanger or inconvenience others. This offence can result in a fine of up to 5,000 baht.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man will face charges, but the incident has reignited debate about the conduct of some foreigners in Thailand and the enforcement of road safety laws. The video has since continued to spread on social media, reflecting the growing frustration among locals over what they see as dangerous and disrespectful behaviour.

Nobody said it was the crime of the century. However, I do think we need more sane people in Thailand

What an idiot!

Probably another tourist high on weed didn't realise his g/f had absconded.

People really need to get incensed by this behaviour, disgusting! Obviously the "Invisible Woman" never complained.

I agree. In Pattaya he would be naked.

He is only trying to get some refreshing Carbon Monoxide into his lungs

Should not the Thai “netizens” try and get some life? Spending all your days on social media commenting on every minor incident is not a healthy habit.

Both Phuket and Pattaya have been well-known screwdrivers for decades.
