Off topic I know but I see you have a picture of Maggie on your posts.

She was the best prime minister we ever had, she sorted out those communist unions guys who were more or less running the country at the time.

No electricity during Christmas one time, I remember we had to sit huddled around a candle, when it became really cold we used to light it. 😄 (A les Dawson joke)

Seeing as the temperature of the oil is already about 33c when the car starts due to the high temperature in Thailand, my car is up to ruining temperature within one minute, hence no wear or tear due to the temp.

I change my oil every 10k kms, with modern oil changing it early is just a waste of money and time.

Oil change comes by type and quality of oil, km, time,  type of bike, riding style,  and how often you ride.

Myself do it 6k or every  6 months, where’s most recommendations is more frequently in tropical environment.

He is doing a damn fine job sorting the USA out but to me GOAT is a stretch.

Its colloquialism, term that is now used commonly to describe a smaller motorcycle - usually a 'step through' type frame - Most people know whats meant when the term 'moped' is thrown around, people also commonly use the term 'scooter' (which is technically accurate for a lot of step-through-motorcycles) but they don't mean a kids stand-on on pushy thing !!

The term 'moped' originated with the motorcycles that were once less than 50cc and also pedal powered, and thus had bicycle pedals - these circumvented licensing regulations in places such as France, and thus were very popular amongst teens - if I'm not mistaken a youngster only needed to be 14 to ride one.

As we are in Thailand and we farangs are a visiting minority we should use the term motorbike as that is what Thai call them when speaking English, a moped has pedals.

Awesome, Einstein was awesome, not every day things, so you must be a Canadian as you stated you are not American.

Or you could be an uneducated Brit as they use the word sometimes,

Why we use to drive the car to Phuket, rent a MC for actually driving around & being able to park near a restaurant, so not stuck to 'walkable' vendors from the hotel at any 1 beach.

Also why we stopped going to Phuket around 2010, till the scamdemic hit, and why we won't return till another arrives.   Same with Pattaya & Chonburi areas, been there a few times, decades ago, and it's just too congested now, along with so many better options elsewhere to visit, without the hassles.

It depends what you are used to, I lived in the South East of England about 30 miles from London most of my life and the traffic is worse than where I live in Phuket.

Here in Kathy, Kathu I can get around very easily in the car.

We went to a shopping centre yesterday, a massive supermarket and next to it Japanese, Italian, Thai and many more restaurants, with onsite parking it took ten minutes by car, I overtook lots of motorbikes on the way in the pouring rain.

There is a massive Central shopping centre twelve minutes away and it had probably 40 restaurants and other things there, free parking etc.

Most of the girly areas have now gone in Patong and have been replaced by restaurants and hotels as I think those types of tourists go to Pattaya nowadays, most tourists are couples, families or groups these days hence the numerous restaurants.

Even soi Bangla has many music bars and clubs which have replaced many of the bars, the girly bars are mainly there to be observed by tourists as they walk past as is the case in the red light area in Amsterdam for example. I don't know how those empty girly bars survive any more.

I go to Patong maybe twice a year when friends visit as I feel like I am on holiday when I am there even though it is just over the mountain, as it is so different to the rest of Phuket.

Ok so it is a second or third language, no problem.

If you ever do go to non-American influenced countries, using the word 'awesome' all the time is seen as sign of poor English, I am not being sarcastic, it is just a footnote.

Agree.   My brother would chuckle at me, by the way I drive in TH, vs the way I used to drive in the USA.  Talk about laid back and just taking it all in.

Occasionally have fun on some of the back roads, but wife gets motion sickness, so very rare.

On earlier post, avoiding accidents, and a 'what if', which somehow, contrary to everyone else it seems, I avoid them, and others avoid me, as haven't been hit yet, except that one time, and that was my fault.

Wish I could say the same about driving in USA, as stated previously, 6 times, idiots crashed into me, thankfully was not on the MC.  And so many more times, almost had a oops on the MC over there, as people just don't respect them, unlike in TH.

After living for 2.5 years full time in Phuket and doodling around at 25 mph due to the large number of traffic lights here as no one knows how to use roundabouts, I went back to the South East of England for five months.

I drove slowly and had queues of cars behind me so I then got used to driving fast again, on the motorway at 80 mph etc.

When I got back to Phuket I drive fast, only to end up a red traffic lights twenty second earlier than the cars behind and sat at the light for between two to four minutes each time before doing the same at the next lights.

So now I drive at 25 mph again as it is almost guaranteed the lights will be red and there is nothing to be gained by speeding.

I think it is funny when I see a red light two hundred yards into the distance, I take my foot off the gas and are then overtaken by Thai drivers heading for the same lights.

Then when the lights go green it takes the cars in front a few seconds to register the fact, then they each move off slowly with large gaps between each car meaning less cars behind them can get through the green light thus causing more traffic build ups.

When I am first in the queue I zoom off and when I look in the mirror the next car is just about to move off, I do make sure all the cars on the other sides of the cross roads are stationary first though and no one is going through a red light.

I would guess there are millions of Americans who know quite a bit about other countries. There is school along with research afterwards, plus visiting in person. And American comedy is as good as any.

I agree, many reasons to not have a motorbike, and since I travel as much as I do, the bikes was standing more than they where used, and everytime I came back I serviced them if they had been standing more than 3 months without been used. The gasoline degrades quickly in tropical environments, mouse starts chewing on your electric parts and wires, which happened twice to me. Brake fluid must be changed more often to out of same reasons

My partner has a motorbike in the small village she was born in near Sichon, when she goes back she uses it as the roads are very quiet and she uses it just to potter about on.

She just told me she changes the oil about three or four times a year, a guy does it and the charge is 100 baht so that seems easy.

She's killing the planet.

Low km motorbike only needs to change once a year.

Mityon, Honda dealers in Pattaya charge me around 200 baht for my PCX oil and filter change.

100 baht is the job only, and the way they service the small bikes, only fix when something is broken, and not before.

Smaller bikes should change oil more often

Smaller motorbikes need more frequent oil changes due to several factors, including

their typically smaller oil capacity, the use of mineral-based oil in many models, and the engine often sharing the same oil as the transmission and clutch. These factors mean the oil works harder and degrades faster than in a car, especially when subjected to harsh conditions like stop-and-go traffic or high-performance riding

Brake fluid ?

Seems you know more about my Honda PCX than Mr Honda himself.

My handbook says if km. interval is not reached, change oil annually.

7 minutes ago, SAFETY FIRST said:

And what do your handbook says? Im pretty sure it is same as any other motorcycle sold in Thailand

6 months or 6K, that is standard also for big bikes

A low km motorbike do not need less care than bikes who are used on daily basis, and I would claim even more if not driven for months at times.

Just a quick search

In a tropical climate, you should change your PCX's oil every

6,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, according to Honda's periodic maintenance schedule for the Philippines. Tropical heat can degrade oil faster, so using a high-quality, synthetic oil with a longer change interval like 6,000 km is a good practice

Just to add the explanation

Key factors to consider for a tropical climate
  • Heat: Higher ambient temperatures mean the engine and oil work harder and are exposed to greater stress, which can break down the oil faster. This makes regular changes even more critical than in cooler climates.
  • Synthetic oil: Using a fully synthetic oil can help provide better protection against heat, but it's still essential to follow the recommended service intervals to ensure the oil remains effective.
  • Riding conditions: If you frequently ride in stop-and-go traffic or in other demanding conditions, consider changing the oil more frequently than the 6,000 km/6-month schedule.
  • Honda's recommended schedule: Always refer to your specific PCX model's owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals and oil type.

General recommendations
  • Change every 6,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
  • Use high-quality, full-synthetic oil to ensure the best protection in hot weather.
  • Consider changing the oil and oil filter at the same time.
  • Refer to your owner's manual for the most accurate information on oil type and change intervals for your specific model

Brake fluid ?

Only had to add it once, and only because the gasket wasn't seated correctly, and had a small leak from the reservoir cover location.   MC only has 7200 kms on it.

Brake fluid should be replaced once a year in tropical environments, or at least every second year.
