Kamala Harris, the former US Vice-President, has sparked speculation about a potential presidential run in 2028 following an interview with the BBC. During this first UK media appearance, Harris hinted at the possibility of her seeking the presidency again, soon after her loss to US President Donald Trump last year. Confident about the prospect of a female leader in the White House, Harris said that she could "possibly" be the one to break this barrier.

Harris did not hold back in her criticism of Donald Trump, branding him a "tyrant" and suggesting that her previous concerns about his authoritarian style had been vindicated. In the aftermath of Trump's decisive victory, which has prompted considerable introspection within the Democratic Party, Harris’s comments resonate with those searching for new ways forward. A significant part of the Democratic blame game has targeted Joe Biden, whose delayed decision to withdraw from the race is viewed by some as a critical misstep.

Questions surrounding Harris's campaign strategy have also emerged, with critics arguing that she could have been more effective in addressing key issues such as the economy. However, in her interview, Harris remained steadfast, stating that if she had listened to sceptical polls throughout her career, she wouldn’t have advanced to where she is today. Her remarks underscore a determination to remain a political force and her belief in public service as a lifelong commitment.

Harris emphasised her independence from public opinion polls by dismissing polling data that labels her as an underdog, suggesting she is behind celebrities like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the Democratic nomination. "If I listened to polls," she reflected, "I would have not run for my first office or my second office – and I certainly wouldn't be sitting here."

Harris also reiterated her viewpoint that Trump's influence had led to the weaponization of the Department of Justice, notably referencing the suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel by ABC after a joke about the Trump administration. She pointed out incidents where she believes media and business figures have capitulated to Trump’s demands, motivated by proximity to power and self-interest.

As Harris entertains the potential of another campaign, the future remains open. She is currently promoting her new book, "107 Days," which delves into the whirlwind period leading up to her presidential campaign and Biden's eventual step aside. Although Harris has not made any definitive promises, her intentions appear apparent, describing her political journey as continuing with the assertion, "I am not done."

Despite this, the White House has brushed off Harris's comments. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson declared that Harris should heed the clear message from the American public who, according to her, have dismissed Harris's "absurd lies." The administration’s response to Harris’s remarks illustrates ongoing polarisation and political tension between the two parties.

Looking to the future, Harris may face challenges in regrouping and redefining her message, should she choose to run. Her candidacy remains the subject of debate, with some attributing her previous defeat to the lack of clarity and timeliness in her platform. However, Harris has articulated the need for time to establish a connection with voters and present her vision on domestic issues such as housing and childcare.

Whether Harris can galvanise support and secure a successful presidential bid remains uncertain, but her drive demonstrates her unwavering commitment to public office.

Key Takeaways:

  • Kamala Harris hints at a possible presidential run in 2028 during a BBC interview.
  • Harris criticises Donald Trump, claiming her predictions about his leadership have materialised.
  • The White House dismisses Harris’s remarks, reflecting continued political tensions.

  • Yeah, JD Vance must be doing a victory dance at the prospect. Could you imagine a debate between Kamala and JD?  That is, IF she would consent to having one.

Good Lord!   Her word salads are the same.  Nothing has changed.  Nothing she says makes sense.   Please Run!   Meanwhile, the British people are saying WTF.

Maybe she should first reinvent and restructure that message before the regrouping and redefining, it might help to smooth the regurgitating of it later on.

The Republican Party is fully behind Kamala Harris being nominated as the Democrat Presidential Candidate.

Could be worse I suppose, AOC has hinted she might run for President?😅

I really hope she runs again, it will make it much easier for JD Vance especially if she keeps drinking before speeches.

Do it Kamala, and let's have more of that blaccent. 😄

That democrat bloke who had the near death experience and is now talking like a republican, his name defeats me at the moment, is the dark horse you need to watch as the runner to be president

Wouldn't the GOP just love to see a Harris-AOC ticket? YEAH!  That's the ticket!

The Dems have to choose a white, middle aged, Christian family man..........otherwise too many votes will be lost from certain groups.

Doesn't have to be a felon or to have been found liable for sexual assault or to have been banned from running a charity.......although these might help.

Had no idea he ran to be POTUS

What 2028 election?
Certainly not an American one. I don't believe there will even be a Midterm election.

Within a few weeks, trump will declare the Insurrection Act of 1807. This law grants the president the authority to deploy the U.S. military domestically during emergencies. He will wait and not declare it until a week or two before the midterm election.

Trump has indicated that he would invoke it if necessary, especially in situations where he perceives local officials, such as governors or mayors, as obstructing federal efforts to control crime and unrest in cities like L.A., Portland, and Chicago.

We have already seen that he thinks it's necessary to send in troops to several major cities despite the fact that the Governors and Mayors of those areas say it is NOT necessary or even wanted.

Once he has done this, he will declare that the midterm elections will be 'too dangerous' to hold now, so they will be put on suspension. Not canceled. Just 'temporarily suspended.'

Perhaps for the next 20 years.

I’m always impressed with the clever repartee the Right manages to think up. Well thought out, usually delivered in Stentorian volume so the rest of the world can laugh. And it does.

I thought the midterms might, somehow, be avoided.....but it seems not???

The only out seems to be a raging civil war.......whoops!!

Unfortunately, the American voter is both racist and misogynistic so she doesn't stand much chance.

I remember one telling my how much she hated Obamacare but liked the ACA. A normal response.

She's an idiot. If she was not an idiot she might win. Only losers play the cards!

Yes, very much so.

That is why they elected a black guy TWICE for President, and a black woman for VP.

Obviously racist and sexist.

What a load of rubbish. She's never held a real job and now wants to run a nation. No way!

Why shouldn't she run again, She only lost by about 2 million votes to Trumo. She did better than Trump who lost to Biden by about 7 million and still run again.

She has every right to but she's not wanted.

She think she is wanted and will present herself with other candidates for the electorate to decide.

She can but honestly I think she's smart enough to eventually realize that she shouldn't.
