Five-Vehicle Pile-Up Kills Three on Motorway Near Pattaya

Featured Replies

A lot of the replies here seem to be (what?) surprised by what they have seen.

But everything in the thread is a perfect illustration of normal driving everywhere in LoS...

  • Also called tailgating, why cant thai drivers keep their distance to the vehicle in front of them?

  • I drive the 7 motorway 90km each way to and from work 5 days a week.   Fortuner drivers are A grade a-holes (cuckholds in their BYD's come a close 2nd).... pretty much every single one I see

too fast, too close

I rode all the way from Chiang Mai to Pattaya yesterday.

A couple of the highways had '2 second rule' signs posted every few kilometres.  A good start, but at 100-120 it should be 3 or 4 seconds. It will never happen here. Ever.

Countless numbers of those pickups with stainless steel canopies were camping in the right hand lane going under the speed limit, driving people to extreme lengths to get around them.  I was tailgated on my motorbike at 120 with nowhere to turn to escape the idiot.  The Thai motorbike riders lane split at 140 kmph, which is probably where a fair number of bike fatality stats come from.

Did I mention the tailgating ?

Using all 4 lanes in an attempt to maintain 120km/h++ (135 is my sweet spot) is great fun.

Back in the mid 80s as a foolish young man I did just that from Frisco to LA one afternoon down Highway 1 I think it is, with Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust' blasting. Great fun. Great beat. Great fades. Matched the traffic beautifully. Video living.

It is an exhilarating drive on the 7 motorway using all 4 lanes weaving through the traffic at speed, I always have a Pantera album playing (Great Southern Trend Kill gets the juices flowing).

I hope you survive as I did.

Even then I was known for measured, sporty but defensive driving. But I couldn't resist that blast. A real speed high.

I've always assumed the other guys an idiot and that's saved me many a time.

Once on the M6 I halted at the end of a tailback but kept an eye on my mirror. Saw the guy coming up behind couldn't possibly stop in time so I moved out to the right onto the grass on the central reservation to barely squeeeeze past the guy in front of me ... who was then promptly hit by said fast approaching vehicle. I gave him a grin and a polite nod as I edged past him. He was apoplectic. Should have watched his mirror.

They scare me here, particularly the HGVs that seem to barrel along at high speed and I wonder if the driver is nodding off!

Sounds like the mg driver was in me first mode, probably flashing headlights as well.

Deleted, one month old.

It's an inbred thing, pull back from a vehicle for safety and one will fill the gap...

They will drive faster to try to get through a gap to overtake.

This behavior is prevalent on Thai roads, stay clear of it.
