Thais pushing back on Koh Phangan

Featured Replies

The title was a quote from Thai comments posted by Thais.

Here is a thousand more for you to read if you are capable.

I went through all the popular comments, and not a single one mentioned banning Israelis. Most of the posts are about foreigners in general. Many Thais are simply worried about foreigners buying Thai land. Israelis, in particular, don’t seem to concern the broader Thai public — unlike you and your Muslim friends.

This notion of Thais pushing back is interesting, however. Presumably, someone is responsible for selling them the land, issuing the documents, and pocketing the money.

You do sound typical of the denialism that they are infamous for.
I guess you missed the bit of the interview with the Thais complaining how they shouldn’t have to pay for their meals on a Friday because it is their religion that no business should be conducted on a Friday.

Just keep denying and denying there is a problem when there clearly is.

Foreigners have been buying land in companies with nominees for decades and it was an accepted loophole. Everyone happy.

But people from these warring nations Russia and Israel are similar is they show no respect to Thais and have rocked the boat too much.

Which is why we have had the crackdown on the Russians last year who appear to have mostly accepted that respect is required if they want to continue.
Israelis not yet, but let’s hope they get the message.

I am not holding my breath.

Wow.
Straight from the playbook.

Lie and then accuse others of lying.

So are the Thais lying?

Or is it just another excuse the Israelis use to not pay which they are known to try on?

Jewish businesses, particularly those in areas with a large Jewish population,

generally close on Fridays to observe the Sabbath, which begins before sunset and ends on Saturday evening. While most observant Jews do not work or conduct business during this time, some businesses may remain open on Fridays until early afternoon, especially in Israel. Essential services in Israel, such as hospitals, are an exception to this rule.

Let’s be clear.

The Thais have zero problems with people being Jewish religion.

The problem is solely the way that the Israelis conduct themselves in Thailand.

Looks to me like it's just the Israelis' turn in the barrel.

I would say that this is the result of the DTV visa .

The five year visa would give people the confidence to open up a  business .

Many people have been wanting to move and to live in Thailand ,

Some Thai visa forums are inundated with people wanting to move to KPG on DTV's .

It was only  matter of time before KPG became full

You were claiming a couple of days ago there were no peace marches for Palestinians in Thailand also.
Which was completely false. I am not saying you are lying, it is just you don’t have a clue about what is in the Thai news.

You really need to broaden your news sources before making stuff up.

What I meant was a show of gratitude by official channels of the Thai government, Prime minster, or the foreign minister

so every Thai will know what Israel did for their people, right now 99% haven't got a clue of what took place, that's what I meant.

As for the Chabad centers are definitely under scrutiny for their access policies. They seem to believe they have some sort of consular privilege.

But why would anyone want to go there? It's brainwashing.

Or if I'm being too judgmental, it's discussions that don't pertain to anyone not from that country and religion.

The Israeli try to take over business and more.Im not surprised at all. These people think their the choosen ones.I hope IMM also make them the choosen ones and blacklist everyone who doesn't follow the laws.

Thais with short memory as how many of them are working in Israel now earning good money and respect,

they forgot so quickly how Israel fought and risked death and losses for 2 years to Bering their fallen comrade's home when no one, but no one in Thailand even talked about their brothers being tortured and starved to death and kill in Hamas hands,

Not one word of Thank you or gratitude and then they go after Israelis as if they're their sworn enemies.

ungrateful behavior.

A personal memory, but probably not unique:

My Thai brother-in-law worked in Israel for several years with other Thai colleagues.  At the end of his work contract, he and his colleagues were cheated out of thousands of $ in wages owed by their Israeli employer, imprisoned on false pretences and finally all deported - all of these hard-working Thais cheated out of money legally-owed to them

My BIL is a very nice and meek kind of chap, but his opinion of Israel is 'not so good'...

Couldn't agree more. It really isn't a Jewish religion issue. It is an issue that a very large number of Israeli's are deeply unpleasant individuals with a huge sense of entitlement and play the race card at every opportunity.

Says the guy with 99% no clue of what has actually taken place.

Very widely discussed and reported on.

Two spot on comments in one hour.

I think I will be nominating you for POTY the way you are going.

Most Thais know exactly want on over there and how the Thai hostages were left for dead while the IDFs sole focus was on getting their Israeli hostages back.
The prisoner/hostage swaps were only for Israeli hostages and the Thais know it.

The negative feeling of your relative is well understood based on his anecdotal personal experience. But you took it a bit too far. You have no idea how widespread such experiences are among Thais in Israel.

A disgusting vile distortion of what actually happened. Typical of your demonize Israel at every chance agenda. Many Thais were prioritized for release early in the process as deemed not responsible/not valuable pawns by the Hamas terrorists.

Thanks.

I see one sign.

I'd like to see a poll of all Thais if they support banning ALL Israeli tourists from Thailand.

I would be shocked if there is significant support for that among Thais.

Supporting aggressively going after criminal behavior from any nationality, that's very different.

There is clearly a problem with an obsessive agenda of hatred trying to infect as many people as possible with the same bias.

This thread is specifically about the growing concerns AMONGST THE THAI PEOPLE about Israelis (not Jews in general) taking over large parts of Koh Phangan including approximately 90% of the businesses in Haad Rin which for decades has been a big drawcard for backpackers from all around the world, employing cheaper Burmese labour who will not speak out and other problems this are causing on the island.

So please no playing the antisemitism card and just stay on topic which is how the Thais feel about this and the affects it is having on them and how it might affect other foreigners with increased scrutiny on Thai nominee companies which may affect many members of this forum personally.

Please watch the video before commenting and stay on topic. Increasing numbers of Thai are getting increasingly angry about the situation.

This is not a thread about the Gaza genocide, Israelis taking over Cyprus, India, Philippines etc.

It is a problem and will have a ripple affect across all of Thailand.

Read the comments.

Filled with extremist hatred of Jews.

I saw that video too. Really disgusting that you posted it. Though predictable.

No, I think he mentions in the video that he has recently converted to Islam.

I'm not sure I understood correctly though.

He is comparing the situation in Ko Phangan to Gaza. This does appear to be a biased rant from an Islamic person.

Perhaps not the most objective person to listen to.

Extremely biased hateful garbage.

Also what exactly is wrong with there being a healing program for traumatized Israelis on the island?

Are they less than human and not deserving of having a chance to heal?
