Why choose Cambodia?

Most people living in poverty are uneducated, stupid, lazy, or have mental illness.

I can think of 100 ways to make significant money wherever I am.

Yet, like a lot of people, you rely on the UK pension to survive.

I like pensions, had a state pension, company pension and a private pension.

They last as long as I do, and I never have to worry about working again or running out of savings.

I'm not sure I have a heart, and I definitely don't have a hat.

But unlike you, I do have a document stating I'm sane.

I often worry about people who need a document to say they are sane.

Where did you get it? And why?

When are you moving into the rental?

So you live there?

Whilst it is easy enough to make fun of you, I don't want to do that. I've had enough fun with @Yagoda

Better to have a normal discussion if you can.

I think Cambodia suffers from a relatively poor image, even if in the past. The Killing Fields. Paedophilia. No one really talks about Cambodian cuisine.

I guess I came to the thread to get some positive news. A reason to take a look for myself. Unfortunately the people who reside there are hardly role models and so aren't really able to improve the image in the mind's eye.

So if you have some positive input, I'm happy to review it.

as this is a thai forum , doubt u will find but a few that will give you a positive , well thought out response to Cambodia,, ( I tried)

Try,  https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/   where all the expats love it there

Do you still get the shadiest of the shady there?

This thread is a perfect synopsis of the internet in general and Asiannow in particular.  It looked like an interesting topic and quickly devolved into a lot of needless nastiness and bickering interspersed with reasonable posts.

Here you go, over half of Cambodia’s GDP is controlled by one man, all built on crypto scams, pig butchering operations, human trafficking, and slave labor tied to financial crimes. The Americans call him one of the biggest financial fraudsters in history. Without him, a China-born Chinese, the nation’s economy would collapse. Though the Cambodians say he is a legitimate business man building shopping malls. Nothing to see here.

Interesting,is that because they use the US dollar ?

Has nothing to do with the US dollar Georgie. Things are just more expensive in Cambodia because so much is imported.

Quality of housing rentals is not on par with Thailand. A $300 dollar flat in Thailand is way nicer than the same priced place in Cams.

By the way, only a fool would pay for things with USD in Cambodia. Always pay with riel.

Yes and no. Have you rented in both places, meaning Siem and Bangkok? If not, how do you know.

Why? If you have ABA, you have both. Generally, if its less than $20, use reil. More than $20, use greenies. I mostly use the QR. Everyone I know that lives here uses both.

Why would one be a fool?

Its the politics. If you dont share the politics of certain folks, anything you say will be vomited upon with their putrid nonsense.

A perfect example is the poster above. 95,000 plus one liners with an emoji and never says anything.

Its pretty quiet. Good for keeping on the cutting edge as to where the good grub is.

Shout out to the $6.50 (220B approx) Chicken Parm at Jungle Burger. Fabulous. Fries and salad and a whole breast with quality mozzarella and real real Italian breading, not just basic schnitzel.

This is the diversity of members and we must embrace diversity

Why are you comparing the two places? They are not at all comparable. It's literally a ridiculous comparison. Compare places with similar facilities and populations.

Actually, from where I stand, you are both infamous for putrid nonsense. Both obnoxious in your own way most of the time. Every now and then, you'll make a sensible post.

Your opinion is meaningless, but thanks for offering it.

Oh please can we perhaps show some dignity & respect in the house thanks , surely that's not too much to ask !

I can read, but it's still a ridiculous comparison. But I guess you don't have much experience with anywhere else. Worthless indeed.

I like to invest my USD not spend them when I can spend riel.

Also - and this has never happened to me - but I heard that sometimes you get a fake greenback with change given.

Would rather spend bricks of riel and not worry about it...

Each one is 12 cents. You carry 300,000 of them, not me.

This is Cambodia bro, its small change. The currencies are interchangeable. You are talking nonsense.

I'd compare Siam Reap to Ching Mai, similar feel to both places.

Then I'd compare Phnom Penh to Bangkok, again similar feel to both places.

it used to be sianookville before 2010 or so, but the farangs fled the place en masse with the incoming chinese builders,

if i remember right they went to some other little coastal town to the east of sianookville.

anyway dont bother with it, stick to thailand and youll be alright

There are many more scams in Vietnam than in Cambodia, where the "Easy visa " is great and cheap. I like Siam riep. I was mugged in Phnom Penh, and it is a perilous place to live. Thailand is a much more secure place with much better infrastructure. Alcohol is cheap in Cambodia, but food is better in Thailand. I think Cambodia is cheaper than Thailand, cos. currency, and you can pay with dollars anywhere.
