A 33-year-old Lithuanian-born American tourist was found dead in his Phuket hotel room after traveling to participate in a Muay Thai fitness camp. Weighing nearly 200 kilogrammes, he aimed to improve his health through boxing and fitness training. The tragedy occurred in a hotel on Soi Ta-iad, Chalong, about a week after his arrival.

Chalong Police received a report at 4:07 PM on Wednesday, October 29. They discovered the tourist lying on his back at the foot of his bed, with no visible signs of injury or disturbance. According to a hotel housekeeper, the man had expressed feeling extremely tired and had requested snacks the day before.

The following day, the housekeeper found no response when returning to clean the room, prompting hotel staff to unlock the door, where they found him unresponsive. Rescue workers confirmed his death, and a preliminary examination revealed several types of medication in the room, but no foul play was suspected.

Police believe a chronic health condition may have caused his death. His body was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause. The US Embassy has been notified, and arrangements are underway to repatriate his remains.

The incident underscores potential risks of intense fitness regimes for individuals with underlying health issues. Known as "Fitness Street," Soi Ta-iad is a hotspot for health tourists seeking lifestyle transformations through fitness and detox programs. The man's name remains undisclosed as authorities await family notification.

With respect. maybe he should have considered Sumo Wrestling!

He recognised he was overweight and at least he was trying to do something about it. RIP.

Weight loss camps and Thailand have a very dodgy reputation. They generally involve injudicious use of all sorts of drugs simultaneously and zero medical supervision. Shane Warne is the famous one but the overwhelming number of victims are Thai women.
