Online 90 day address reports with new passport (Jomtien)

Featured Replies

This is basically an update on a report I posted before about my experience with 90 day address reports at Jomtien after getting a new passport.

I had understood correctly that even though doing it online for years with the old passport, I needed to do the FIRST report after getting the new passport in person.

I assumed that after that I could then begin online reports again.

But no, I was told at the 90 day report desk that I would never be able to do them online again until exiting and reentering Thailand.

I balked and they said, well you could try it but it won't work.

Well, just for sport, I did try it.

REJECTED

No email sent to inform of the rejection and checking online there was no comment about it. Just simple REJECTED.

So there you go.

Or more like there I must go to the immigration office.

You also updated your TM 30 too right?

showing you're registered at your address under the new passport number?

The 90 day online and TM 30 systems cross check passport/address.

If you didn't that could be it.

Yes of  course I did.

A copy required to file the report in person every time.

I replaced my passport in 2023.
Visited IO, stamps transferred to new passport.
Did not file a new TM30.

Used the online system as normal since.

Different year.

Different office perhaps

In any case In person reporting with updated tm30 now required at Jomtien with new passport.

I had thought first time only though.

A question.

Did your new passport have the same ID number?

US passports issue a new number.

What happened to me isn't a mystery.

The people at the Jomtien 90 day reporting desk informed me of the situation.

Different number.
Apart from transferring stamps, the IO spent a few minutes on his PC, I assume updating/changing details on their database.

OK, thanks.

Again, 2023. Not recent.

"SHOCKING" DEVELOPMENT!

Today I did finally receive an email about my 90 day address report application (Thursday it was sent on Monday).

After resigning myself to visiting the office for an in person report as it said online it was rejected when I logged into my account, the email today said it was APPROVED!

My account record now has been updated to show approved now as normal.

The new report form correctly shows my new passport number.

Not sure what to think about why it happened this way and don't really care. Happy that it looks like I can continue online reports as before.

The people at the desk telling me it was not possible weren't fully wrong -- it was initially rejected. So someone at immigration was kind and/or efficient enough perhaps to override the initial rejection. Also remember they did say I could try without telling me not to even bother trying -- which implied some chance of success.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

An IO once ran me through and explained how the 90 day reporting system operated.

The online application goes to a centralised system with a dedicated server, which sorts and sends the application to the individual IO's for approval or rejection.
When you obtain a new passport and transfer stamps, the IO should update their local system and the central system with the new details.

I believe you received a 'rejection' from the server because the central database wasn't updated during your visit to transfer stamps, and it didn't recognise your new passport number

Whatever you were initially told, maybe the penny dropped, and another IO informed them why the online wouldn't work.
Someone since updated the central database and your application went through to the local IO to be approved.

Not that you really care, how and why, but that's my take on it.

Thanks.

A possible clue is that I was told at the retirement desk that they aren't interested in seeing nor do they require an address report during stamp transfers to new passport or extensions. Not their department so if it was something they should have updated in the system, they definitely were't doing it. TM 30 is required for extensions though.

I think these issues are more prone to occur at larger Immigration offices with multiple desks for dedicated procedures.

Fortunately, I use a small Isaan office with just 4 joined counters side by side and if you encounter more than 3 foreigners waiting, they are busy.
Even though the 4 desks are named for extensions, 90 day reporting etc, you could be applying for an extension, re-entry permit, 90 day report and requesting a COR and the same IO at a single desk will handle everything. You also overhear all the conversations between IO's and foreigners as you sat side by side, and IO's correcting or updating another IO on certain subjects.

The general lack of training is appalling, more on an ongoing need to know basis.

I got a new passport a couple of months ago. I used Maneerat to transfer details from old to new passport.
Immigration 'kindly' did a 90day report at the same time, which actually wasn't due for about another month. I received an email re. the old reporting date - which I ignored - then applied online on the correct date using the new passport number. I fully expected a rejection, but lo and behold it was successful. Next one is due in the next week or so - fingers crossed.

So is a new 90 day report needed when you get stamps transferred to a new passport?, If you do the report as normal in the original passport, then get your new passport within say 45 days, is the next report date not 90 days from the last one but using the new passport?

Yes, provided you've had the stamps transferred beforehand.

Two years ago I came back from  UK with new passport and new visa. The first 90 day was done at immigration as part of extension application. The next I tried online but was rejected on the basis of being the first since entering the country, what happened to the immigration version?. I trotted along and did it in person,  then the next I did online without a problem.

The 90 day reports shouldn't have anything to do with the TM30, I am still using a TM30 from 2015. When I got the new passport I stapled in the old TM30 and had expected something to be said at the first extension.

However I do use the other half of Chonburi Immigration.

i took my new passport to immigration Huahin, they transferred stamp and did new 90 day, I don't do online just use Blueport but I might try online.

A while back, I went further than Liquorice and asked a senior Immo office at CW why we ex-pats on retirement extensions needed to do the 90-day address report.

The answer:  "In case you have a problem..."

Translation:  In case a warrant for your arrest has popped up?
