Thai, Cambodian Troops Exchange Fire in Border Clash

Thai and Cambodian soldiers briefly exchanged gunfire along the border in Sa Kaeo province on the afternoon of November 12, 2025, in an incident that lasted around ten minutes and left one Cambodian civilian reportedly dead. Thai troops fired warning shots in response to small arms fire from the Cambodian side at Ban Nong Ya Kaew, Khok Sung district, with the situation later calming down, according to Naewna newspaper, Channel 7 and Amarin TV. No Thai casualties were reported.

Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, said that Thai soldiers acted strictly in line with military engagement rules, taking cover and returning warning fire only to neutralise the threat. The First Army Region later confirmed that Cambodian soldiers had opened fire first, firing approximately 30 rounds from what appeared to be AK-47 rifles. Thai forces, it added, exercised restraint and aimed only to protect national sovereignty and prevent further escalation.

The clash subsided after about ten minutes, with Thai troops ceasing fire as soon as the perceived threat ended. Officials emphasised that the Thai side took great care to avoid hitting civilians and followed international law throughout the engagement.

However, Cambodian officials in Banteay Meanchey province issued a statement later in the day alleging that the Thai side had initiated the confrontation. They claimed that at around 16.03 Thai soldiers fired shots across the border, resulting in the death of a Cambodian civilian. The provincial authorities said they had reported the incident to both the Cambodian Interior and Defence ministries and were coordinating with the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to launch an urgent investigation.

Earlier, a video posted on the Army Military Force Facebook page showed Thai troops discovering a PMN-2 landmine placed inside a frontline bunker. A Thai sergeant major stated that Cambodian soldiers had crossed the barbed wire fence and planted the device before fleeing.

Key Takeaways

• Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged fire for about ten minutes in Sa Kaeo province.

• Cambodia reported one civilian killed, while Thailand reported no casualties.

• Both sides are coordinating through the Joint Boundary Commission to investigate.

If the warning shots are hitting civillians then maybe they should fire targeted shots.

I heard the Cambodian army are using civilians as body armor but maybe that was just propaganda - then again - who in their right mind as a civilian would remain in an area of ongoing gunfire - normally you would take cover / jump in the car and drive off.

I also wonder - who sneaks across the border - uniformed soldiers or could it be these 'civilians' who really would not normally be allowed in the area of conflict, makes me wonder who's doing the mine laying here.

two things

Thailands military is  vastly superior but both have do not have the ability to perform precision strikes

they are lobbing artillery  at each other.......7/11 tragic

but one thing I have to say - if you are going lay mines ..... make a map where you put them

Cambodia needs to tell Thailand where these mines are otherwise there is going to be a problem

if Cambodia continues to di#k around then they got what is coming

They are so worked up on both sides of the border that they cannot leave each other alone.
I keep getting the feeling that it's a case of “mine is bigger than yours”.
Childish behaviour.

Right!  So what have you done, except to misspell common names at this point?

The Donald, at least he's trying.

Pol Pot's Lieutenant should have been disposed of at the end of the war in VN.

On Thai news last night they were saying that the civilian that had been supposedly killed had been cremated already about 4 hours after the incident.  Highly unlikely.

Sadly, this is already a problem as Cambodia, in truth, does not know the locations of many of these mines. Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge laid millions of landmines, especially along the borders, to try and stop Cambodians from escaping, and foreigners entering Cambodia. The CMAC (Cambodian Mine Action Centre) has for years been trying to locate and destroy these old mines (reference Google)

Over its more than 30 years of operation (from 1992 to mid-2025), the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) has found and destroyed a total of 1,003,623 anti-personnel mines and 26,692 anti-tank mines. (There are hundreds on display in the Landmine Museum in Siem Reap - all deactivated I might add!

I have visited the northern border with Thailand and Cambodia's UNESCO Preah Vihear Temple site. It is mountainous with dense forests and still has hidden old mines, as we have sadly witnessed recently, so people visiting the area are warned not to wander off designated paths and tracks. The Preah Vihear Temple complex however is safe for tourists. If Thai soldiers wander off these designated tracks illegally on Cambodian soil then accidents will happen.

More propaganda from the genocidal Thai Military. Reference today's Khmer Times 14/11/2025

Phnom Penh has called for a United Nations fact-finding mission to investigate an “unprovoked shooting” by Thai armed forces that killed a Cambodian villager and severely injured three others.

Does Thailand go to the United Nations, NO, it does not want to be a laughing stock with its misinformation!

Naa, use your imagination. This is a "new" conflict he can claim to have settled ... just sayin.

"...in an incident that lasted around ten minutes and left one Cambodian civilian reportedly dead. Thai troops fired warning shots in response to small arms fire from the Cambodian side"

Those don't sound like warning shots.

And if a Cambodian civilian was killed in the shooting, that makes me wonder who actually fired first.

Oh yes the Donald is very trying.

For starters he did not end the Thai/Cambodia conflict, the Malaysian PM did. Trump was busy cheating at golf in Scotland at the time.

His claim to have stopped a war between India and Pakistan came as a surprise to the leaders of both countries.

The war which Trump claimed to have stopped between Azerbaijan and Albania just didn’t happen cos the two countries weren’t at war in the first place.

As for peace in Gaza…it ain’t happened.

Peace President? My ar*e!

   No, it didn't .

Pakistan thanked Donald for stopping the war

  • "Pakistan, in contrast, praised U.S. involvement and "decisive diplomatic intervention," with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif going so far as to suggest Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for preventing a potential nuclear conflict. "

And there was me thinking this was a thread about a conflict between two neighbouring countries along with the unfortunate death of a civilian and the equally unfortunate but somewhat predictable casualties suffered by the soldiers.

Where as in reality is seems it has become nothing more than an excuse tocontinue a relentless attack on the US President by those who must really be the sorest losers in the history of humanity and their lefty sympathisers,

Have some sympathy for those innocent civilians caught up in this on both sides of the border, those who have lost loved ones, sustained injuries, forced to evacuate to refugee camps and / or had their houses and crops destroyed, along with all sorts of unimaginable inconveniences and unpleasantness

Just for once its not all about your bizarre and childish obsession with Donald Trump, nothing but a shower of virtue signalling losers
