DTAC Prepaid 5G confusion

Featured Replies

Does anybody know what the 5G designated DTAC plans exactly mean these days?

For example this plan

"5G Super Combo"

Internet 5G max speed 30GB then unlimited at 4Mbps
675 Baht / 30 days

https://www.dtac.co.th/en/package/prepaid/5g-super-combo/detail/21234555

Ok sounds great, 30GB max speed for 675 THB

... but wait, this one sounds way better:

"Internet Max Speed"
Shock Price: Internet at max speed 50GB
299 Baht / 30 days

https://www.dtac.co.th/en/package/prepaid/internet-max-speed/detail/21234089?pkind=2&ckey=eyJzdWJtb2RlIjoiU1RDIiwibWFwcGluZ0lkIjoiWWE2dWYiLCJjaGFubmVsSWQiOiIyMTA0MTEwMDM0IiwiYmFubmVySWQiOiIyMDE1MDcwOTU5MCIsImNhdGVnb3J5TmFtZSI6IlByZXBhaWQgUGFja2FnZXMiLCJwYWNrYWdlTGlzdE5hbWUiOiJpbnRlcm5ldC1tYXgtc3BlZWQiLCJpbmRleCI6Mn0=&hckey=458098d2be4bdd3b43a50adedd27566ffb0cc80ba01c8e511251d09f4a2bb3cb:39b9d7277ea8350d59550c8e2e70dbed59d6f11517e2240b5727daf86f060d16dhsh1763079874

Here I'm getting nearly double the data at less than half the price, also at max speed. Ok it doesn't mention 5G in the description, but I'm using this plan right now and my phone displays 5G symbol.

Am I missing something here?

Yes, you missed Maths and comprehension classes

You missed the bit that states Unlimited 4 Mbps, which over 30 days could potentially give you 1.296 Terabytes of data. A bit more than 50GB.

According to your link, their best value package, for sheer data volume, offers up to 6.48TB(6,480 GB)

Net Rockstar : Unlimited internet at 20 Mbps

Sure I know that, but 4 Mbps (or even 20 Mbps) is too slow for me. I want max speed.

And 50 GB per month should be fine for my usage.

Let me rephrase my question:

Why is the first package labelled as "5G", but the second is not?

Clearly the second package is also capable of 5G, like it is indicated on my phone.

If you knew that, then why did you ask the question?

As for your rephrased question, your link does not actually lead anywhere. The only package I found that corresponds to your description is not a Max Speed package, but is in fact limited to a maximum of 20 Mbps.

You will see here that this is the recommended speed test: https://testmy.net/

With other tests you may get inaccurate results.

I guess that puts the spoke in the wheels of your claim that 20Mbps is too slow for you. Either way, as you say that 50GB is enough for you, you have the right package, since you aren't complaining about the speed.

You can use the 5G network, but your speed is limited. The other package's 30GB is not speed limited.

No my package isn't speed limited, see screenshot from DTAC app below.

Thanks for the tip with new SIM, I might go that route with my 5G modem router.

Run the speed test to confirm. Rather than to be a victim of marketing. It's entirely possible that it's legit, as they will offer exclusive packages to existing customers that aren't on their website. But it doesn't take much to confirm, by running that specific speed test.

Try AIS for the Router
