Question on 800k baht Method and Money Exchange Rates

Featured Replies

As of today 800k baht is about $24,728 USD, give or take so that would be about the amount I would have to put on deposit for my first one year extension.  Over the course of a year during the non imm o visa retirement extension the amount of baht in ones account could fluctuate to below 800k baht due to an exchange rate, even though the retiree did not take any money out of the account.  Is it up to the retiree to make sure the converted Baht amount is always above 800k?  Just wondering if maybe the retiree would get consideration or relief if the exchange rate got worse, as long as the initial amount deposited satisfied the 800k amount.

You will need to deposit Thai baht, not Usd

Once the money is in the account, it is baht. The rate doesn't matter anymore as it is not being exchanged back to USD.

800k+ Thai Baht (THB) on a Thai Bank account.

What fluctuation?

Foreign currency accounts are not accepted by immigration (to all that I know).

Yes there is a one time challenge to send enough USD to receive 800k+ THB.

Depending on the method of sending some fees and fluctuation during the transfer might apply.

Add 5% and you should be fine.

Got it.  Thanks

And that will NOT work.

Its the mid market rate and even with WISE you will have about 0.75% to add.

WISE shows exactly what will be on the THB account.

I was just listing that as an example to kick off the topic, but I understand

One possible result with WISE (different methods possible).

OP, you seem confused.

You require 800k + baht in the Thai Bank account.

When you transfer eg using WISE the amount in say USD is shown along with the exchange rate and amount in baht that lands in your Thai account.

If that amount is less than 800k then alter the amount you are sending

I am not confused at all.  I know the final result has to be 800k + thai baht in the account

Then why start a thread?

For fun?

You are not listening.  I asked if the exchange rate could be a problem post initial deposit.  Please do not insinuate negative things to a poster.

What are you typing about.

The amount in babt is shown at time of transfer.

After transfer the exchange rate is irrelevant.

The 800+ baht is in the Thai Bank. Got it.

Here is transfer I did an hour ago. The transfer amount is shown.
