Public Anger Grows Over Extended Alcohol Sales Hours

Buying from M&P stores is fine, I'm lucky that the small stores stock a wide variety of beers. Was visiting Isaan and couldn't locate any of my fav brand. had to settle for Leo.

And how about the wine and spirits selection. Any chance of buying a bottle of cab sav there or a bottle of Absolut? Still doesn't alter the fact that a person should be able to buy a can of beer mid-afternoon at 711or a bottle of vodka whilst doing the shopping at Big C, Loltus etc., mid-morning.

  • I get that. Personally not bothered about extended hours but the 2-5 thing is silly and has to go.

  • Public in this context being a minority activist wowser group represented by an organisation that wants to stop alcohol consumption.  This probably has more to do with police actually doing mor

  • Every single person of drinking age in Thailand who would, for example like to buy a cold beer at 711 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on a stinking hot day. Give me one good reason why this shouldn't be

Nice of you to share your 'if it doesn't bother me I don't care' attitude. As for accusing me of having a problem if you think someone who thinks arcane laws based on irrational policies should be scrapped means someone has a problem then guilty as charged.

All Im saying you making a problem out something that isn’t really a problem. It is a minor pothole in your way, nothing else

How much more trouble freee and how higher up on your happiness scale would you be if there wa no alchohol preventive regulations?

It's a matter of common sense over a rediculous law. Nothing to do with it being problematic. A person should be able to buy a can of beer from 711 mid-afternoon or mid-morning. There is no logical reason why this shouldn't be the case. This is not about me.

My local M&P has a great selection of wines and spirits, helps I guess that they supply most of the bars in my area.

Open 12 hours a day 7 days a week except buddha closure days, need booze after 7pm or on buddha day, not a problem, the owners son delivers!

Lucky but this would be the exception not the norm. Most M&P shops are pretty much the same and I've been to lots of them in my 20+ years here.

be great if they sold mar bars and ham cheese toaties... then I would have no need to ever step into a 7/11!

If it was about common sense, alcohol would be illegal, right?

There is no common sense about free flow of alcohol 24/7, but I understand it is an unpopular stand of view, but still common sense based on how much alcohol related problems cost the society.

After been home in Norway, and got used to darker beer and bayer again, I cant stand Heineken anymore. Heineken used to taste good in the heat, but now changed taste. Local beer never had a taste for really, Except Singha reserve was it after a long ride in the heat.

Try Carabao Dunkle.

As would tobacco products, sugar, anything with trans fats, all processed food, cars, motorcles etc indeed anything that can be a danger to you. Sorry your argument doesn't hold.

When it comes to common sense it does, because alcohol related incidents and trouble involves so many more than the person who drinks and make trouble, do stupid things or do crimes because of intoxication by alcohol. Families, kids, neighbors and random people harmed by coincidence, the list is long

And being able to buy a beer at 711 between 2-5 will change this how?

Depends on your location. Our what you call Mom & Pop stores have a wide selection of booze, just as good as a 7-11 for sure.

I've only been frustrated when I forget the time or the watch stops keeping correct time at a 7-11. I'm more miffed that they don't sell beer at PTT station.

Teera said he opposed lifting alcohol-sale restrictions nationwide, insisting that any relaxation should be limited to designated zones or ‘sandbox’ areas. He also urged authorities to clarify enforcement procedures and confirm whether sufficient officers would be deployed for inspections. Questions remain over whether the extended hours apply to venues such as grocery shops, highlighting the need for clear criteria and venue classifications.

Teera seems to support discrimination.

We talked about common sense compared to other volunteering toxins, and some regulations if implemented and practices can do some yes prevention from impulse buy and drinking during school closings for the day.

Yes. Location does matter. As for beer at PTT it was Prayut who did this. Same time as no alcohol at train and bus stations.

Not sure what this means but lessons in Thailand in general finish at 3:30 pm. not 2:00 pm. and even if 711's are open when school closes so what, students will be in their school uniforms. There is no logical argument for the 2-5 pm ban. If you think there is please share it.

They used to. As I posted Prayut stopped it. Again this makes little difference as locals know where to buy and you usually don't have to go far down the road to buy a beer.

The hours before and after I was more thinking of drunk driving and not students buying alcohol. As you say, alcohol can be bought everywhere, and maybe that's the reason now for new rules implemented where there will be punished public drinking during closing hours by higher fines.

This is not regulations against tourists, but locals

I dont know where you got that from, but here in Phuket 40,000 baht at the road side police or spend the night in the clink and court in the morning was 5000 baht, and that was a Thai friend,

Age really doesn't come into the equasion. It can be easily bi-passed using a legally aged friend.

Indeed so you can avoid every rule if you want...and nothing can be made solid

To this day I have never heard one local complain about the alcohol law in Thailand, only foreigners, and those  in the bar and restaurant business.

Thais do not care

How about respecting the country you visit, it is just some few hours,

Thais don't care aboit anything, that is why Thailand doesn't go foreward

It comes down to how many actually braking the rules, and the higher fines and actually practiced it will finely give results.

The traffic have actually become better the last 5 years, still a long way to go

I have different experiences than you. Not all Thais are the same, some actually follow laws and regulations.

The rules and regulation and the law in 20 years have changed nothing here in Phuket, the same culprits are still selling beers if you want them, and the same places to go for a drink, if you want of coarse

The only Law abiding citizens who obey the laws are usually farang owned business, jing jing,
