She looks lovely..

I married my Thai wife at Ampur Klong Sam Wah Minburi Bangkok 25 years ago. My step daughter to be and her boy friend were witnesses. I got married on my birthday so I wouldn't forget the date.

Somewhere else (?), in Krung Thep, 1st Thai wife, in 2000.  You can get married at any Amphur office.  Divorced 1st wife 1 yr later at Muang, Udon Thani.

Married 2nd wife at Muang, Udon Thani, after living together for 8 yrs. New Years will make 20 yrs together.

England's village of love if there ever was one!

What embassy gives marriage advice and why would anyone take it anyway?

Hand on heart.......not a clue where we got married.......definitely somewhere in Bangkok.

I did not get married in Bangkok, but, based upon my experience, I think the US giving any advice would be a function of what you declared on the affirmation to marry doc if you are widowed or divorced and what other amphur have given problems with that.

45+ years ago in Tokyo.

The reason is practical, as the embassy is in BKK, you need the  'Affirmation of Marital Status' form to get married from them.

That has to be translated by an authorized service, and express service, same day, will be extra of course, if offered.  That needs to be 'officially' notarized.

The Thai notary place 'Legalization Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' is in BKK.   Time it right, and you can maybe get it all done in a day or 2.   Or take a few days to explore, BKK or nearby for a week. while translation done

Need appointments for US Embassy & Legalization Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok (MBK ???).  ฿400 for same day express service on Thai side of paperwork.

Once you have those 2 'notarized' forms, you can get married anywhere.

You don't state where you are located, as Embassy Outreach may be near you, save you the trip to Embassy, for notary of form on USA side of the paperwork.  Chance are if 'outreach' comes to you, there someone that does the 'service' for the Thai notary, though shop around, as prices differed dramatically in Udon Thani for that.  I used an all in one, translation & expedite mailing service for 2nd Thai marriage, after outreach notary.  Cheaper & easier, less than 2 week turn around.

Best part about getting married in TH, it's really easy to get divorced.  All of 15 mins maybe at Amphur office. 20+ yrs ago anyway ...

... "Hi we want divorce, sign here & here, you're divorced" :coffee1:

Thanks to everybody for your replies.

I've just found out that the Legalization of the Permission to get Married issued by the Embassy can be done also in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya etc. Please see https://qlegal.consular.go.th/customer/create

That's a great news as I do not live in Bangkok.

Got all the paperwork done in Bangkok but married at our local amphur and I think it was free, no ring at the time got one months later for her, that's it, and she changed her name to mine.....:coffee1:

We got married at Urandangi and we had a big corrobberee with all the wife's 'lations. , about a hundred of them. We had a whale of a time especially when they all got drunk.

Those dates only make sense if you were with both women at the same time. A throuple?

Was married at Bangrak personally, back in 1999. Anyway. Did all the running around (embassy, MFA, translation services, amphur in one day. Then did the monks, and wedding ceremony and reception the next.)

1st Thai wife 2000-2001

2nd,  moved in 2006 - present, 20 yr come Jan 1st, married 2014.

3some sounds good though 😎

Been there, done that, didn't bother with the T-shirt :coffee1:

Hat Yai, 20 years next February 14th.

Ours not very relevant to this but we were married in the First Presbyterian Church Bakerstown Pa USA May 1976. Was informed in 2014 during a funeral we were the most likely only mixed race marriage in that church ever.  At the time I think my wife was only the second asian in Butler County. We were quite rural. But we still together

Except that is a cold old hole and even the pink floral wedding display at the back did nothing to give any warmth to my visit there. Also 35 days to wait for an appointment once they have 'approved' your documents. Just a wedding factory with a nice name.

I changed my affirmation to Buriram province for January - but the local amphur is so relaxed that they will marry us in December.

Married in US then registered a year later in Bangrak..

go early ..  bring 2 witnesses and don't forget to grease the wheel or you could be there all day

ps,,, it's been 17-1/2 years

I went to the Amphur (in the big city up north) with all the papers to try and book an appointment. Everything was in order and accepted, but after about 30 minutes talking with my fiancée, the staff said the next available slot is in May. By then, our documents will have expired (they're valid for 3 months), so I'd have to go back to Bangkok to get new ones.

However, the employee suggested calling this agency (phone number provided), they can apparently arrange an appointment for us within the current 3-month validity period.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is using an agency like this recommended, or should I try a different Amphur instead?

Thanks for any advice!
