Over 300 Schoolchildren Kidnapped in Nigeria, Security Concerns

Featured Replies

More than 300 students and teachers were kidnapped in a major abduction incident at St Mary’s co-educational school in Niger state, Nigeria, according to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). This attack follows a similar kidnapping in Kebbi state where 25 girls were abducted. The new total of 303 students and 12 teachers missing came after a verification update by CAN.

The raid on St Mary’s represents nearly half the school’s student population. The Nigerian government has yet to comment on the abduction numbers, but Niger state’s governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has closed all schools as efforts focus on rescuing the abducted individuals. President Bola Tinubu returned from G20 commitments to address the crisis.

The US urged Nigeria to take urgent action against violence targeting Christians, following President Donald Trump's comments on potential military intervention. Security remains a critical issue in Nigeria, still traumatized by the 2014 Chibok kidnapping by Boko Haram. The recent abductions emphasize ongoing concerns.

An unknown staff member described the chaotic night when attackers, armed with motorcycles and vehicles, invaded the compound. The aggressive operation, lasting three hours, left the school community in fear. In response to ongoing threats, Nigerian authorities ordered the closure of nearly 47 boarding schools across the nation.

The situation exacerbates fears about the alliance between bandit gangs, who often seek ransoms, and jihadist groups. Parents like Stella Shaibu question government effectiveness and express support for international intervention.

Key Takeaways

  • Over 300 students and teachers abducted in Niger state, intensifying security fears.
  • Nigerian and US officials call for decisive action to curb violence against Christians.
  • Ongoing insecurity attributed to bandit gangs, with concerns over jihadist alliances.

They really need armed security or maybe the army itself to protect these girls' schools in these parts of Africa.

A sick country glorified by liberals and ex residents lucky enough to now live in the west

Problem is the army is corrupt as is most of the Government there.

The Nigerian Army faces "considerable to high" corruption risks, per Transparency International's Government Defence Integrity Index (GDI), graded 'E' (very high risk). This hampers counter-terrorism efforts against Boko Haram/ISWAP and banditry.

Why are these African counties so forked up?

Perhaps you should be less monolithic in your thinking. Some people on the left are critical of the Israeli state, not Jewish people per se, and, today at least, there is some justification for such criticism. But, you’re right, sometimes people (often on the left) are critical of Israel obsessively, in a fashion that smacks of antisemitism, while expressing indifference toward horrific events such as this one in Nigeria (or in Sudan, or Haiti, or a dozen other places around the world).

However, you’ll find a lot more overt antisemitism on the right, rooted in the same tropes and conspiracy theories that have been around for millennia (e.g., “Jews will not replace us,” from the Charlottesville march a few years ago, etc.).

Greed and corruption is endemic.

Wow. Very sad news about these kids and teachers. I’m sure they are terrified. Hopefully they will be released.

Post colonialism vacuum ?

Full of poverty and muslim extremists target that group as easily brainwashed and recruited.

Christians are being slaughtered daily in Nigeria without much interest or concern being shown in most Western countries. Having said that the US government. at least. has spoken up on the sad course of events.

As another poster here said, the liberal brainwashed leftie feminists and beta males (Greta included) will just forget about this tragedy in a couple of days because it doesn’t involve Jews.

The world is overrun by brain dead individuals.

So why this thread so short compared to a thread where Israel killed a couple of terrorists ?

we both know why. Jews bad. Africans suppressed victims

that’s the leftist narrative and it’s sick as f

If this happened in Gaza , then there would be numerous threads and references  discussing whether the schools lights were on or off
