Non imm O retirement visa re-entry and return

Featured Replies

I arrive December 2 on a non imm o 90 day retirement visa.  I have read something along the lines that for some  visas, if you depart before the original visa expires, which in this case is 90 days and get a reentry permit, one can re-enter later on the same visa and it would be valid for in this case another 90 days. Is that true? If it is true, how much later can one re-enter? Are there any strings attached or anything illegal doing that? Thanks.

With your visa you can enter once only for 90 days.  That's it.  You can leave and return with a re-entry permit but you won't be able to get a new 90 days, only the remainder of the original entry.

No it's not true.

When you enter on Dec 2 you will be given a 90 day permission of stay stamp.

The Non O is "used"

You can purchase a reentry permit at immigration or airport.

The reentry permit has an expiry date which will be same as the expiry of the current stamp given on entry.

You can exit and reenter up till expiry of reentry permit.

Sadly, you are confusing a 90 day, single entry Non-Immigrant Type O Visa which allows you to enter Thailand once and get a 90 day entry stamp <- which is the visa you have

With a year long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O Visa which allows you an unlimited number of entries during the year the visa is valid for and each entry getting a new 90 day entry stamp. <- which is a visa not sold any longer..

The only way you can get more than the 90 days you're going to stamp in for is to meet the financial requirements (bank 800k baht in a Thai bank account for 2 months before) and apply for a yearly "extension of stay" at the immigration office where you stay for 1900 baht
And then
After you get that year extension inked in if you wanted to travel you'd buy a rentry permit that would let you exit/re-enter the country for the year that extension is good for.

Otherwise, you're gonna get 90 days on arrival with the visa you have and when that 90 days runs down, it's done..

Even buying a reentry permit after you get here will not add any time to your initial 90-day entry from that Non-O.. all it will do is let you travel in and out during that 90 days and when you come back get stamped in for the same expiration date.

Tod Im hoping you or someone else has the correct answer as that explanation almost answered my question, but not quite, lol. Once you have your 1 year extension based on retirement:

1. Can you come and go as many times as you like during that year, as long as you get a reentry permit each time before you leave?

2. Can you stay out of Thailand as long as you wish, during the year of your extension and again, re-enter , as long as you got a reentry permit before you left and you re-enter before your year extension expires?

For example:

3. I get my year Extension based on retirement, I then travel to Malaysia for 2 weeks, come back to Thailand for a month, then travel to Japan for 2 months, come back to Thailand for 2  months, then travel to Europe and N America for 5 or 6 months and come back to Thailand a month before my Extension expires (each time I leave, I get a reentry permit), leaving $800000B in a Thai bank the whole year, untouched. Then again apply to extend my visa for a year based on retirement, and continue  to travel essentially the same way? 5 or 6 months inside Thailand , 5 or 6 months outside Thailand?

Thank you in advance if you know if this legal and will be allowed by Thai immigration without raising any red flags.

Or will they say "Im not staying in Thailand long enough, Get a different visa" ?

Get an multiple entry visa, it cost you additional 3800 baht,

I do as you say, come and go. And make sure I extend my visa in time every year. Saves heaps of worries and stress.

You have option of single or multiple reentry permit. 1000b and 3800b respectively.

Most opt for multi if more than one or two exits and return.

#2. Yes

#3. Yes. Plan example you outline is zero problem.

The other thing to note is that you will never be hassled at airport etc.

Best option.

You could just get your retirement extension and then buy a multiple re-entry permit for 3800 baht at the immigration office. That would let you exit/re-enter an unlimited number of times during the validity of the extension, with each entry getting you stamped in until the extension expires

No issue at all staying out of thailand as long as you want, get the year extension, have a re-entry permit and stay out the rest of the year if you wanted, as long as you're back before your extension expires (so you can apply for a new yearly extension) you're fine.

The reentry permit can be obtained at immigration office or international airport on departure.

They even offer optional "service" to provide form + photo etc 200b

So a couple more questions now and please chime in with your opinions and answers as I do seriously value them all.

As a legitimate retiree, that won't be working or vlogging or starting a business, just travelling about and relaxing. Does the following sound like a solid plan, as one point I am still confused on is the banking procedure/certainty.

1. Show my Canadian bank deposits to obtain 90 day retirement visa in Canada.

2. Arrive in Thailand, get permission stamp to stay 90 days.  Will banks open an account on the 90 day retirement visa, before the 1 year extension based on retirement is approved?  (on a 90 day visa, 3 months seasoning of 800k is impossible,, does Thai immigration relax the seasoning rule for your first extension?)

How is this overcome?

3. Would parking 800k in a Thai bank be a concern to any of you?

4. Is Moving around within Thailand allowed as a retiree as I don't intend to stay in one place too long? (2 or 3 months max in any 1 place until I find a place that feels right).

Again thank you so much in advance.

Correct..

Banks will/should open bank account with your Non O stamp prior to one year extension.

Some banks may request a certificate of residence. Obtained from immigration.

For first extension the 800k needs to be seasoned for two months.

None whatsoever.

Of course it's allowed.
