Featured Replies

Looking for recommedation for a 3 D printer.

It is for a student ,first printer to gain some experience and more knowledge.

I have no idea how this all works but he wants to print parts to built a robot.

Any ideas? Thanks.

  • In My opinion one cannot go past the Bambulab machines... they just work and work really well with minimal fuss.   For a small robot project, I would print with PLA on a A1, great little mac

  • Great entry level machine.   If the 3D print bug bites, then step up to the enclosed machines (I have XC1 and H2d).

  • The proffs would prefer her to use the uni printer but she wants to experiment on her own. Just saying.

For a small robot project, I would print with PLA on a A1, great little machine to get started on.

They are far from expensive, unless a cup of coffee is a budget breaker.

Any that you find on FBMP is going to be fine.
You can buy the machine and extras for cheap on there. Make them run a calibration program in front of you,  no,  you won't know whats going on but they don't know that.
Watch for jerky movements or skipped steps, you'll know it when you see it. Make them tell you. Adjust the price accordingly.

They are lots of fun, easy to use and theres actually money to be made.

EDIT: another voter for Bambulabs, they're as easy as it can get

Creality are good, and spare parts are easy to find. Recommend the Ender 5 pro.

I had an ender 5 pro... was good. Retired for a K1C.... could not deal with the pain of selling the 5 pro so put it out with the trash!

would have gladly given it to someone that is not a 3D print rookie.

when I retire my K1C I might send you a message if you are interested, it is basically no longer used since I bought my Bambu H2D.

But do you still have to pay for every print  from their online app store thingy ???

Yes sir 🙂 I'll take it! Bambu Labs are the best, its just spare part availability here is a pain.

Many free print files out there... Or learn 3D CAD and create ones own.

So you can easily use your own code  ?

I heard they (Bambu) made it "difficult" to not use their payware.

The person in question is a student working on her masters in Chang Mai.

She is learning to write code and this printer will be a gift from me to her to help her with the studies.

She has build robots before and that is her passion,i am trying to give her all the help she needs to be success full .

I will look into these things more now i have brand names ,think i am going to go with Bambulab .

She needs to gain more experience, there is a 3D printer at the uni but that is being used by a lot of students and the waiting line can be long.

She wants to write the g-code ?

Thats what the slicer software is for.

Might be best for her to learn 3D CAD Design then create g-code from.

To be honest i really don't know what kinds of code she is learning.

I guess i will have to ask her.

yes good idea ,  G code is  a pain in the backside  often the ticker tape had a few errors and we had to read through the whole program on the CNC terminal to try spot the mistake...then step through the whole program in single block mode hoping  that nothing crashed into the chuck 🤕

I reckon it will be the robotics code for the robot.... not the g-code for the 3D print files.

What software is she using ?

Fusion 360 is the way to go and cheap for students.
Grab-A-cad and others have free files and they are almost always correct.
You can import the files and modify them as needed. Saves a lot of time instead of drawing for a blank sometimes.

Where did u get that from? The uni printer is a waiting game. Pop wants to give daughter her own. Nowhere is it stated that profs give a hoot about which printer they use 🤔👋 Masters students are pretty free in what they choose to do.
