A 16-year-old girl, identified only as 'A', has been arrested by The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for her alleged role in a transnational human trafficking network that lured underage girls into prostitution in Myanmar. The arrest was made at a house in Pai district, Mae Hong Son province, based on warrants issued by the Provincial Juvenile and Family Court. The suspect has reportedly confessed to all charges.

The case originated from a complaint involving two younger girls, referred to as 'R', who was 13 years and 5 months old at the time, and 'J', who was 14 years and 11 months. They were allegedly coaxed and taken to work at a karaoke bar in Myanmar, which was owned by a Thai woman. The girls were forced to provide sexual services to Chinese clients from 8 PM to 3 AM.

The Thai owner of the bar would arrange for the Chinese customers and receive the payment for the sexual services. The prices for these services ranged from 5,000 to 18,000 baht, depending on the client's choices. The bar owner reportedly received a share of 3,500 to 12,000 baht per transaction, while the underage girls received only 1,500 to 6,000 baht. Other Thai individuals involved in transporting the two girls have already been arrested.

Police from the Anti-Human Trafficking Division (Bo Kor Por Khom) expanded their investigation, which led them to the 16-year-old suspect. She is alleged to have been responsible for contacting, coaxing and instructing the two victims about the prostitution work in Myanmar. A financial trail investigation revealed she received a 5,000 baht brokerage fee from the Thai bar owner, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrants.

After learning the suspect was hiding at a residence in Mae Hong Son, police coordinated with local units to apprehend her. The arresting officers approached the house, found 'A' sitting outside with her mother, and presented the two warrants. The suspect acknowledged the warrants and was informed of her legal rights before being taken into custody for further legal proceedings.

During initial questioning, the suspect admitted she was the person named in both warrants and confirmed she had never been arrested for them before. She confessed to all charges, acknowledging that she contacted and persuaded the two girls to go to Myanmar for prostitution. She also confirmed receiving the 5,000 baht payment from the Thai bar owner.

Thaitabloid reported that police have urged the public to report any suspicious illegal activities. They can contact the Anti-Human Trafficking Division on the 20th floor of the Pithak Santi Building in Bangkok or use the hotline number 1191. The police also maintain a Facebook page for the division to receive tip offs.

A transnational????

The criminal behaviours are transnational, ie. procuring Thai juveniles to cross illegally into Myanmar to provide sexual services for Chinese men.

Crimes committed in two countries by the two (or three) nationalities involved, each of them sick and predatory. Thus it is transnational.
