According to my middle brother (who has done a lot of ancestry research), we are not only related to that guy, but also to Simon Luttrell, lord of Dublin, until he was stabbed to death in his sedan chair by the locals who were sick of him.... (my family ancestry does seem to include some 'ruffians'!)

Actually- mea culpa - checking Mr Google suggests that they were the same person....

Splendid!

On my relaxing day off today , tonight I'm watching YouTube on the beautiful English villages and the beautiful countryside of England

they are unfortunately dying off these small villages but what a beautiful place FAR Better and more beautiful than the hot, dry , often crime ridden Australian countryside full of dead animals on the road and crime ridden country towns ,oh don't blame the Indigenous communities that's racism

I want to move to the England countryside

What are you waiting for?

Well, For a rent of say 800 quid a month, one can get a very nice small house in a village,

Sure no waiting list, everybody waiting for you to go home.

George ,you would not like it they have no Kangaroo's or Platypus  there , have you ever seen a Platypus ?

regards woreordie

The only platypus I saw was back in 2023 where I hired a rental car from my City house to what I thought was a relaxing weekend to the Australian country side only to see dead animals on the road ,these poor creatures were lying on the side of the road obviously being hit overnight by trucks etc

No one stopped ,I stopped and got the first aid kit and dialled 000

I called emergency services only to be abused by the slouch hat Country Cop who came out and shouted to me rudely Get Back to the City ,!!!!!!

You won't see a platypus, dead or otherwise, on a road in NSW.

Yes, the demand for rented accommodation is indeed very high.

In any case, the UK would no longer feel like 'home'. Too many immigrants (yep - I've said it), most of whom are only in the UK for the benefits....

Funny you should say that , my grandparents  on dad's side were from northern Ireland and they came to Australia in 1916

My mum came from Sheffield UK in 1962

I tried getting a dual citizenship in the UK  where I was refused because apparently the father must be from the UK ,my dad was from Australia

I rang the immigration department in the UK and told them to get f....d

At least you knew who he was. 555

The UK is pretty much doomed in my opinion

The problem is instantly solved by sending them all to Kanada.

Having recently retired and now living in Laos, I did seriously consider returning to the retire in the UK, living in a quiet village in Somerset, close to my family home (that being Dunster Castle in the village of Dunster, home to the Luttrell family for centuries until inheritance tax screwed everything up!).

So if I returned to the UK I would receive:

- My index-linked UK state pension

- About 600 pounds/month in rent assistance from the local authority, (because my savings are less than 10,000 pounds)

- My council tax fully paid (because I am a single pensioner)

- Free NHS of course, which also means free dental, free optician, free cancer checks, free flu jabs, free prescriptions etc

- slightly reduced fees for utilities, internet etc

- free public buses

So as a single, 'poor' pensioner, I would be doing pretty well, able to go horse-riding on Exmoor (as I used to do 30 years ago), game-shooting on the moors (I always shot only 2 pheasant and plucked/ate them both, never shooting many that were destined for Harrods). I could visit the beach, volunteer at the castle (American tourists would be 'wowed' by a Luttrell telling them about Luttrell Castle!!).

But..... I've lived in south-east Asia for so many years, I still can't persuade myself to return to 'blighty'.

You were Jewish a couple of weeks ago!

lol - I have some Jewish ancestors on my mother's side of the family, which I merely commented upon as a point of interest.  My ancestors are English, Scottish, Romanian, Irish...

If you want to live in Bourton-on-the-Water I hope you have deep pockets!

My plan is to go to the UK and work illegally

I have a former workmate whose cousin  owns a security guard company in the UK , he was working at a gatehouse for cash money for his brother and said I could too

I don't want to give up working even when I retire from my main job

I really couldn't sit in a apartment in Pattaya day after day after day doing nothing !!!

Nah, prefer Water on the Bourbon.

Add a bit of ice for good measure.
