I agreed with you until you said typical Thais.

Having insurance doesn't justify theft.  My home and vehicle are insured but that doesn't mean it's okay to steal from me.

Hope that the franchisees will not be deducting this loss from their employees like they usually do! Will they still be forcing their employees to make 500 Baht plus purchases from their stores every month like they usually do?

Not satisfied with paying minimum wages, forced unpaid overtime, they require their poorly paid employees to hand over a portion of their paychecks every month, just so you know your place!

My son works part-time at a 7/11 while attending university and he is not required to make any purchases at all.  Where do you get your bigoted information?  I wish all of those on this forum who continually complain about Thailand and Thai people would go back to their home countries.

Put these rats in jail. Looters are the deepest form of evolution!

I would generally agree with your statement but in this case the looters were going through the same flood which affected their own food supply, and lets face it, were hungry or required liquids that were not polluted.

As most of us all know, as we do in Australia never drink flood water as it's mixed with sewerage and other poisons such as petrol chemicals,

Further, in Thailand they are I ssume not insured but I guarantee the 7/11s are insured thus the losers in the long run will lose out.!

As per Mr Ujayujay, I bet you have never been in a flood. So use your negative attitude in your own nightmares. Ok!

Lauda Air Flight 004 which crashed in Suphanburi comes to mind.

Unless the store had water levels to their ceiling. Your comment is mute. Sure the store may have insurance. Many businesses do not have that though and insurance companies will be assessing damage to give payouts. Any products undamaged would have been sold at a later date. This is looting no matter how you choose to see it. For those who just saw it as an opportunity to as a chance to grab free stuff, they should be arrested. But, one has to consider the timing of the robberies from looting. There may have been some participating in looting simply because it was the only way they could eat or get fresh water. Nonetheless, it was still a crime no matter your reasoning.

Severe flooding in Hat Yai district, Songkhla, left a local 7-Eleven store damaged, leading residents to collect items from the premises, including snacks, drinks, and alcohol. The incident, captured in videos posted on TikTok, has sparked online discussions about the appropriateness of the actions, with arguments arising over necessity versus theft

Many people live from day to day... when disaster hits they are motivated to go fing supplies.

As long as they're not breaking into malls and stealing TV's

How correct you are. People look at me strange and many times I have been asked if i have a store that i am stocking with supplies that I buy for the month. Most Thais. Do not keep any foods at home other than rice. They go to the market daily to buy what they need or they go to the small food stalls to get their meals. The problem with this flooding also means electric outages are certain. Which means any perishable foods would need to be eaten, cooked and stored or thrown away unless the household had a personal generator. Which many foreigners like me have for a backup when the power is cut for whatever reason.

There are little supplies to steal from a 7-11 though. they may keep a small stock but surely not more than a weeks supply for selling. I think they get delivery trucks 2 or 3 times a week to maintain their stores.

But the OP says alcohol and smokes stolen too.. So their priorities were surely not getting necessary supplies during this crisis.

The stupid and ignorant quote of the day. Bet you wouldn’t be saying it if they stole your goods. 🤡

so there is a difference between stealing a Tv than stealing chang beer and smokes to me its ALL stealing,  breaking the law is breaking the law, does not make any difference what it is

its black and white they stole end of story

Oh and you have never lied? Is that correct the "Saint" here being Mother Teresa's  son?

Yes most likely to feed his family. Would you not do the same after days without food? Or are you a loner and on a diet?

What a stupid comment, For 1 I nor my family would be in a situation like that 2 Thais can not think more than a day ahead  if they do they do nothing,  as i said the guy was taking alcohol NOT FOOD,  it is stealing end of story

Some real sad cases in here
(not a surprise)
caring more about a multi million dollar corporation's waste and social morals
than the immediate needs of those suffering
some who have lost their homes, have no access to power or food etc

It is easy to look down on desperate others in need
when not in their situation

The entire stock will be written off as flood damaged.

Yes i am sure they all have hot water to sterilize stuff,
which is where alcohol would come in handy
and if they were going to drink it, SO WHAT
guy probably just lost a lot.

It is easy to feel righteous and look down on others when you are comfortable.

What you moaners here want?
for them all to be locked up?
that would likely be a much better situation than their current one.
Think...

Looter guy would like to show all Thai brothers and sisters how it is done (from Katrina, New Orleans).
